Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 486

Listening to the steady, powerful rhythm of his heartbeat, the word 'yes' was right on the tip of her tongue when her phone suddenly started ringing violently from the bedside table.

Startled, she shoved at his chest. Reluctantly, he released her and followed her out to the bedroom.

The caller ID flashed Shirley's name.

Her heart leaped into her throat. She shot a panicked look at him. He reached out to answer it for her, but she immediately realized how catastrophic that would be. The time, the location—it was a massive misunderstanding waiting to happen. She absolutely could not let him take the call.

Dodging his hand, she cleared her throat and walked over to the window before answering.

She even pushed the window open, letting the ambient street noise filter in.

Shirley's voice sounded normal enough over the line. "Are you coming home today?"

Bonnie calculated the time in her head. They were heading back soon, but they wouldn't arrive until the evening, and she needed to stop by her dorm first.

"...Mom, I promised a friend I'd go to the library today. I'll FaceTime you tonight, okay?"

After a few seconds of silence, Shirley simply said 'okay' and hung up. Bonnie let out a massive exhale, looking like she had just survived a firing squad.

Seeing her state, Lawrence didn't have the heart to press her for an answer just yet. He merely took her hand and led her back to wash up.

After packing up and grabbing breakfast, they started the long drive back. He purposely kept the conversation light, avoiding any pressure about their relationship status.

The hours flew by. By a little past six in the evening, they were back on campus. He dropped her off at her dorm, waiting until she disappeared upstairs before driving away.

Exhausted from the trip, she rested for a moment before changing into her pajamas to call her mother.

The room was empty, so she didn't bother using headphones.

The video connected quickly, revealing her mother's unusually stern face. A wave of guilt washed over Bonnie, but she forced a casual smile. "Hi, Mom."
