A sharp crack echoed in the room, dropping the temperature to freezing. Lawrence paused, kneeling over her on the mattress. He touched his jaw, a muscle feathering as the sting settled in. She had hit him hard. He ran his tongue over his teeth, his gaze darkening. "Bonnie, that's enough." Bonnie instantly felt a flash of panic at what she'd done, but hearing his low, commanding tone made her defensive walls shoot right back up. She glared at him. "You're the one bullying me! You deserved it!" Lawrence let out a breathless, dangerous laugh. He had spoiled her rotten, creating this fierce, untamed little terror. He fully accepted that. But he wasn't about to let that slap slide. Bonnie had been lying on her back, chest heaving, but as she propped herself up, she saw the shift in Lawrence's eyes. It was a predatory gaze she was becoming incredibly familiar with. Before she left for Verdania, they had crossed the final boundary in their relationship. Lawrence had been an absolute force of nature—young, possessive, and possessing an endless reserve of stamina. Once he started, he rarely wanted to stop. It was the exact same dark, consuming hunger she saw in his eyes now. A heavy, musky tension filled the room, making Bonnie's legs feel weak. She knew she was no match for him when he looked at her like that. Considering they had just been fighting, he was definitely going to take his frustration out on her in bed, and she really didn't want to be so sore tomorrow that Helen would tease her about it. Trying to look brave, she shot him a glare and immediately scrambled toward the other side of the bed. A low chuckle rumbled behind her. Lawrence's large hand wrapped securely around her ankle. With a smooth tug, he pulled her effortlessly beneath him, his heavy, burning weight pinning her down. Bonnie's voice trembled. "No! I'm tired. I want to sleep!" Lawrence kissed the side of her neck, his voice a gravelly whisper against her skin. "Too late, Candie. You better spend the next few minutes thinking of something incredibly sweet to say to me. Because if you don't, I promise you won't have the energy to think at all." It was a blatant, seductive threat. Bonnie whipped her head around to glare at him, but to Lawrence, her anger was nothing but adorable. It only fueled the consuming fire in his blood. God, he had missed her. Desperately. Lowering his head, he captured her lips in a deep, devouring kiss, letting out a heavy sigh of absolute satisfaction. A shiver wrecked through Bonnie's frame, and within moments, she was dragged down into a breathless, suffocating wave of desire. By the time dawn approached, her soft cries had melted into exhausted whimpers. Lawrence finally carried her into the immaculate bathroom to wash her. What had started as a minor squabble had left Bonnie genuinely annoyed. They hadn't seen each other in three days, and he had ravished her as if the world were ending tomorrow. She was completely drained. Bonnie kept her mouth clamped shut, offering him the ultimate silent treatment while a thoroughly guilty Lawrence waited on her hand and foot. He wrapped her in a plush towel and painstakingly blow-dried her hair. Once it was dry, he pulled her into his lap, nuzzling her neck. "Baby, I'm sorry. I just missed you too much. Next time, I swear I'll stop the second you say the word." Bonnie turned her head away, refusing to acknowledge him. "Come on, hit me a few more times," he coaxed, pressing his cheek against hers, his voice thick with devotion. "Look at what you did to my back. How am I supposed to go outside today?" Her face flushed a furious scarlet, and she rasped out that he deserved it. He had claimed he was exhausted earlier, yet had somehow turned into a relentless machine in bed. She firmly decided men were liars. To teach him a lesson, she doubled down on her vow to ignore him. Utterly oblivious to the deep freeze he was about to endure, Lawrence carried her back to the bed. Luckily, they had a few free days to just roam the ancient town and sketch, otherwise he never would have pushed her that hard. With a little time left before the sun fully rose, Lawrence pulled her flush against his chest and reached blindly into his discarded pile of clothes until his fingers closed around a small velvet box.
