He just wouldn't.
He had always held the high ground. In the three years they had been together, it was obvious that he never took the initiative when dealing with people or things he disliked, or matters that didn't involve profit.
But today, he had actually gone to Nora Quinn to ask about her preferences.
She didn't dare picture that scene; her eyes even began to sting.
Perhaps she was just overwhelmed with emotion!
After all, these were the things she had once dreamed of.
Clara lowered her eyes. After a moment of silence, she finally spoke with difficulty, a trace of sorrow in her voice.
"Why... Julian, you don't have to do this. We're way past the point of return! The way things were before was just fine."
"I don't think so."
Julian spoke softly.
He looked at her serene profile, noticing the faint redness gathering at the corners of her delicate eyes.
His voice instinctively dropped even lower.
"Clara, I neglected you before. I wronged you... Only after you left did I feel this sense of loss. It's a feeling I've never experienced before. I regret realizing it so late. Could you please give me one more chance?"
These words were half-truth and half-fabrication, but when he actually said them out loud, Julian felt they sounded pretty good. Maybe after spending all this time with her recently, he really had started to like her a little!
But Julian also knew that it might just be a little bit of affection—not love!
Tears welled up in Clara's eyes as she listened to him.
After all, this relationship still held a very important place in her heart.
But she had suffered so much pain; it couldn't be healed with just a few sweet words.
Clara wiped away her tears and said, "Julian, let's just drop it. I don't want a love that's only a fleeting whim. You're only acting this way because I've changed over the last few days. Give it some time, and you'll get used to it..."
When that time came, he would just ignore her again.
Julian pulled out a tissue for her and whispered, "I won't. I'm serious. It's okay if you don't believe me, but please don't reject me right now. Just watch my actions first, alright?"
Clara paused, at a loss for words...
Just then, the waiter arrived, placing the matcha cake and latte on the table. "Enjoy your meal."
Clara thanked him. Seeing only one drink, she couldn't help but ask Julian, "Aren't you having anything?"
