The CEO's office.
Lyndsey stepped ahead to push the heavy double doors open.
Seraphina offered a polished smile and stepped inside. Seeing Mr. Crawford relaxing in his executive chair with a cup of tea, she greeted him sweetly, "Good morning, Mr. Crawford."
Mr. Crawford glanced up, returning a polite smile, but his expression stiffened when he saw she was alone.
He set his teacup down, his brows furrowing. "Where is Clara? Why are you alone?"
Seraphina's eyes gleamed with hidden malice, but she let out a theatrical sigh. "Clara wasn't fully prepared. She's downstairs making last-minute revisions to her draft. She should be up shortly."
Mr. Crawford's expression instantly darkened.
If there was one thing he hated, it was unprepared amateurs choking at the last second. Did she not even know what she was here for?
He slammed a hand on his desk. "If that's the case, let her keep revising. She doesn't need to present at all!"
He turned to his secretary with a glacial tone. "Lyndsey, go downstairs and tell Clara she is permanently blacklisted from any future Crawford Group projects."
Lyndsey hesitated.
Seraphina hid a victorious smirk, raising her chin triumphantly.
Right at that moment, the office doors swung open,
Clara walked in, slightly breathless.
She offered Mr. Crawford an apologetic nod before turning a razor-sharp, mocking gaze onto Seraphina.
"Ms. Shaw, I was right behind you the moment Lyndsey called for us. I just missed the elevator and had to take the next one."
"Why on earth did you tell Mr. Crawford I was downstairs revising my drafts? What exactly is your agenda here?"
Seraphina's smugness shattered. She stared at Clara in absolute shock, then cast a panicked glance at Mr. Crawford, her lips trembling as she failed to find a single excuse.
Mr. Crawford frowned, looking intently at Clara. "What exactly is going on here?"
Clara met his gaze confidently and explained.
"Mr. Crawford, I know exactly how crucial this presentation is. I finalized my designs days ago. While waiting downstairs, I simply reviewed them one last time."
"Ms. Shaw saw me doing it, yet she came up here and lied to your face..."
All the color drained from Seraphina's face, her expensive makeup barely hiding her panic.
Mr. Crawford's eyes narrowed dangerously.
Lyndsey chimed in right on cue. "Mr. Crawford, Ms. Vance is telling the truth."
"When I went to fetch them, I clearly saw Ms. Vance reviewing her final portfolio."
"I was actually quite confused when I heard Ms. Shaw make those claims just now..."
