"Mr. Lowell, are you alright?" Arthur asked in panic, quickly bending down to pick up the file. He looked at Julian with deep concern. "Are you okay? You don't look very well..."
Julian's face was chalky white.
He pressed his parched lips together, his brow knotting in agony. He closed his eyes, taking several moments to gather himself before hoarsely saying, "Leave me."
Seeing his state, Arthur didn't dare ask any further. He took the file and left.
The corridor descended into silence once more.
Only then did the profound wave of regret well up in Julian's eyes. Overcome with bitterness, he clenched his fist tightly and slammed it into the wall, muttering a low curse under his breath.
His knuckles instantly broke the skin and started bleeding, but no matter how much his hand stung, it couldn't compare to the tearing pain in his chest.
Yes, his heart was aching!
He was aching for Clara, consumed by remorse over everything he had done to her!
He realized:
*That night, listening to me say those things, enduring my roughness, she must have been in so much pain!*
He realized:
*This morning, watching Seraphina use my name to steal her lead designer position right in front of her, she must have hated me so much!*
He realized...
Julian closed his eyes in devastation, a faint glimmer of moisture catching at the corners of his eyes.
Just then, a furious roar exploded from behind him. "Julian Lowell!"
Julian frowned. The moment he turned his head, a solid fist smashed directly into his jaw, instantly drawing blood from the corner of his mouth.
Julian let out a muffled grunt, stumbling backward unsteadily. He caught himself against the wall, stabilized his footing, and used his thumb to wipe the blood from his lip. Narrowing his eyes, he glared at the newcomer. "Dominic Jarrett, what the hell are you doing here?"
Dominic's eyes were as cold as ice, looking as if he wanted to tear Julian limb from limb.
He had just received a call from the lab informing him that the hypnotherapy trials were successful, so he had briefly stepped away to handle it. Yet the moment he returned, this tragedy had occurred.
The woman he had safely brought back was now fighting for her life in an operating room!
How was he supposed to accept this?
"Julian, you're a fucking animal! You don't deserve a single ounce of the love she gave you! You don't deserve her!"
Dominic's eyes were bloodshot. Striding forward, he seized Julian by the collar and drove another brutal punch into his jaw.
Thinking about all the suffering Clara had endured recently made his chest ache, and realizing that this was exactly how she had lived for the past three years while he was gone... it broke his heart completely!
Julian Lowell was nothing but an animal!
Passing nurses shrieked at the sight and immediately scrambled to call for security.
But Julian was no pushover. Quickly recovering his senses, he dodged Dominic's next swing and threw a vicious counter-punch.
"I don't deserve her, but you do? She doesn't even spare you a second glance! You better kill that delusion right now! Stop meddling in our business where you don't belong!"
Those words unwittingly struck Dominic's sore spot, a rippling wave of agony spreading through his chest.
