Seraphina jumped in fright, her hands violently shaking as the phone slipped from her grasp and tumbled onto the bed. Panicking, she looked up toward the door, and the moment she saw Julian standing there, all the blood drained from her face. Her lips trembled. "Julian..."
She glanced down at her phone and frantically tried to backtrack. "Julian, it's not what you think. It's not, I swear... Let me explain..."
Julian stared at her pathetic lies with a dead, expressionless face, a roaring inferno consuming his chest.
He stepped into the room, surrounded by a suffocating aura of lethal intent. "Seraphina Shaw, I never imagined you were this venomous. You're a viper!"
Hearing this, Seraphina's entire body went rigid. She looked up at him with trembling, bloodshot eyes, suddenly snapping under the pressure and screaming recklessly.
"Me? A viper? Ha! I'm not even half as cruel as you! You're the truly heartless one... Ugh!"
Julian narrowed his eyes, entirely uninterested in her psychotic rambling. He shot a hand forward, brutally seizing her by the throat. His grip was merciless, fully intent on strangling the life out of her.
Seraphina's face instantly turned a violent shade of purple. She let out agonizing, muffled gasps, desperately clawing at the hand crushing her windpipe. "Let... let me go..."
Julian didn't loosen his grip by a fraction. His voice was colder than absolute zero. "Where is Clara?"
"And who was the man on the phone? Was it the bastard in sunglasses from the factory?"
"Answer me!"
Seraphina gasped agonizingly for air. Seeing his deranged, murderous expression, tears welled up in her eyes, yet she broke into a manic, wheezing laugh.
Her delicate throat bobbed painfully as she forced out a grating, raspy sneer. "Didn't you see the factory burning to the ground? And you're asking me where Clara is? She's dead! You're never getting her back!"
"As for that man... hahaha! You'll spend the rest of your miserable life trying to find him, and you never will!"
"..."
Julian's eyes narrowed dangerously, his fingers digging even deeper into her neck. In that moment, he truly wanted to snap it.
Seraphina let out a pained groan, her face shifting from purple to a sickly blue. The hands clawing at his arm lost all their strength, dropping lifelessly to the bed...
Julian scowled and finally released her, throwing her back against the pillows like a piece of rotting garbage. He pulled a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped his hands with undisguised disgust.
Like a fish out of water, Seraphina collapsed onto the bed, wheezing violently for air. Out of the corner of her eye, she watched him toss the soiled handkerchief into the trash can, her fingers digging fiercely into the sheets beneath her.
Julian's gaze was glacial as he spoke, his voice echoing as if summoned from the depths of hell. "This isn't over. You better get on your knees and pray Clara is alive, because if she isn't, your fate will be a thousand times worse than hers!"
Seraphina's heart plunged into her stomach. Staring at him with a deathly pale face, a fresh stream of tears poured down her cheeks as she broke down. "I saved your life! How can you treat me like this?"
"Saved my life?"
Julian sounded as though he had just heard the most twisted, absurd joke in existence. "Your actions have made me doubt you're that little girl a thousand times over. I will be reinvestigating everything, completely and thoroughly!"
Seraphina choked, instantly rendered speechless. Her spine locked tight as waves of pure terror repeatedly crashed over her...
Right now, only one coherent thought remained in her mind—
