On the highway outside the factory.
The Bentley sped aggressively toward the city center.
Seraphina leaned weakly against the passenger seat, playing the part of a fragile victim. Turning her head to watch the man intently focused on the road, a flutter of excitement stirred in her chest.
Suddenly, from her peripheral vision, she noticed thick columns of black smoke billowing from The Old Ironworks.
Her pupils shrank, and she instinctively stiffened her spine. But in a fraction of a second, she ruthlessly suppressed the dark triumph bubbling inside her, her fingernails biting deep into her palms.
*You forced my hand, Clara! If you had just stayed in your lane, you wouldn't have ended up like this!*
Seraphina's eyes darkened, her facial muscles locked tight.
The smoke above the factory was thick and heavy, and Julian noticed it too.
Watching the black smog drift into the sky before being shredded by the wind filled him with an inexplicable, suffocating dread. It felt as though... something vital was being ripped violently from his own soul.
Julian's dark eyes trembled as he tightened his grip on the steering wheel.
Once they left the outskirts and stopped at a red light in the city,
He couldn't resist pulling out his phone and texting Arthur:
[Any updates?]
Arthur replied almost instantly:
[Mr. Lowell, I need a bit more time. How is the situation with Seraphina? Did you get her back safely?]
Reading that text left a bitter taste in Julian's mouth.
He didn't reply to Arthur. Instead, he opened his chat with Clara, hesitating for a moment before typing out a message:
[Clara, I'm sorry for everything that's happened lately. I truly want to make things right with you. You can punish me however you want.]
[I'm sorry.]
[Please come back.]
He sent it, but it was like shouting into the void.
Julian waited for a long time, but no reply came. The anxiety gnawing at his chest only worsened.
Seeing the light turn green, Seraphina called his name softly. He completely ignored her, his eyes glued to the screen.
She bit her lip and leaned in to get a look. The moment she saw he was texting Clara, all the color drained from her face.
"What do you think you're doing?" Sensing her lean in, Julian reflexively locked his phone. He frowned, shooting her a glacial glare laced with a possessive, forbidding edge he didn't even realize he harbored.
Meeting his lethal gaze, Seraphina's heart missed a beat. Her throat felt as if it had been pierced by a needle, rendering her utterly speechless.
In that moment, a chilling voice echoed in her mind:
*Julian has truly fallen in love with Clara. Even if Clara is dead, he will never love anyone else.*
Seraphina bit the inside of her cheek in furious resentment, lowering her eyes as she forced the words out, "The light... the light is green..."
Julian finally snapped out of his daze.
Seeing her pale, frightened face, he belatedly realized his reaction had been entirely too aggressive. Softening his tone slightly, he said, "Sorry. Clara is missing, and I'm on edge."
Another stab of pain pierced Seraphina's chest.
She buried her head lower, staying silent, though the vicious red hue in her eyes betrayed her true emotions.
