Chapter 6
Caspian had added it himself, back when he wanted to prove how serious he was.
“Also, the main patents for the Southside project? Those are in my grandfather’s name.”
“The smart home system? That was my college thesis. Won an award for it. Copyright’s in my name.”
I turned to look at Caspian.
“All of this was supposed to be for us.”
Caspian’s face went white, then green. His lips started trembling.
“Tessa… you planned this all along?”
The way he looked at me-all suspicious-almost made me laugh.
“Caspian, I trusted you. So I gave you everything I had.”
“But now I see-”
I ripped up the old contract.
“You don’t deserve it.”
I turned and walked toward the doors.
“Tessa!”
Caspian shouted behind me. For the first time, he sounded desperate.
“It’s not like that! Wait, I can explain-”
I didn’t look back.
The doors opened. Six black cars sat outside, waiting.
The head of security stepped forward and held the door open.
“Miss Sinclair, the press release is ready. Legal’s preparing the termination papers.”
I nodded and bent down to get in the car.
“Tessa!”
Caspian ran out, looking nothing like the polished groom from earlier.
He grabbed the car door, eyes bloodshot.
“Over this? Three years together, and you’re just throwing it away? How can you be this cold?”
I looked at him for a long time.

Finally, I spoke.
“Caspian, now you can go back and marry your ‘best friend. Spend the rest of your life with her. No guilt.”
The door closed, cutting off whatever he was about to say.
The cars pulled away from the hotel.
I leaned back and closed my eyes.
My wrist still ached where he’d grabbed me.
But that heavy feeling I’d been carrying around for so long…
It was gone.
I looked down at the engagement ring on my finger, slid it off, and tossed it out the window.
Maybe I should’ve thrown it away a long time ago. Just like he did.
Footage from my wedding went viral that night.
The comments section exploded.
Some people were dragging Caspian and Marlowe. Some were defending me.
Then came the bots. All saying the same shit:
[friends joke around lol bride needs to chill]
[theyre childhood friends its normal]
[she made a scene at her own wedding for attention]
I scrolled through, knowing exactly who paid for those bots.
They always did this-made crossing the line sound like “just a joke.” Made humiliation sound like “just having fun.”
And whoever didn’t go along with it? Always the villain.
My phone wouldn’t stop buzzing.
After I blocked Caspian’s number, he started texting from random ones.
[tessa please pick up]
[we need to talk]
[marlowe knows she fucked up its not what it looks like]
[how long ru gonna keep ignoring me just let me explain]
I didn’t reply. Just turned off my phone.
Next morning, Marlowe posted a tearful apology video.

No makeup. White T-shirt. Eyes swollen, already crying before she even spoke.
“I really didn’t think it would end up like this.”
“Cas and I… we’ve always been like this. Since we were kids. I just wanted to make the wedding fun. But I didn’t think about how it would make Tessa feel.”
She stopped, voice shaking a little.
“I hurt her. I really hurt her. And I’m so sorry.”
“I’m gonna apologize to her. To everyone who was there.”
She took a breath.
“Cas and I are just friends. That’s all we’ve ever been. Please don’t come after him. This is all my fault.”
The video got ten thousand shares in half an hour.
Comments flooded in, feeling sorry for her.
[marlowe bawling rn she had good intentions]
[childhood bffs hit different bride doing too much]
[bride heartless ngl just left him there whos gonna wanna marry that]
Fine.
If that’s how they wanted to play it, I wasn’t holding back.
I told my assistant to release the evidence.
Ten minutes later, Sinclair Design’s official account posted a long thread.
It laid out every single time Caspian ditched me to run to Marlowe.
Birthdays. Anniversaries. Award ceremonies.
He always put her first.
The post ended with:
“Real friends back off when their friend finds love. They don’t make their friend choose between them and their partner.”
“Real love doesn’t let a ‘friend’ keep crossing lines, making your partner feel crazy for being hurt.”
“Not everything can be brushed off as a joke. Some lines, once you cross them, you can’t come back from.”
