To protect what's mine (Amalie) novel Chapter 186

Chapter186 Amalie

Everything hurts. My wrists hurt, my ankles hurt, my neck feels like it is on fire. I want to curl in on myself to protect myself and my unborn pup. I want

the pain to stop.

But at the same time, I don’t want it to stop. If the pain stops, then it’s over. I need a little longer. Cal and Mark are on their way. I can survive a little longer. I survived my old family. I held on long enough for Cal and Mark to find me and they didn’t even know I needed help. This time they know I need them. They are coming.

“We have long waited for our time. Our ancestors hid like cowards when they should have proven that we are the ones who should rule. Instead, they let us be hunted into near extinction. And our goddess did nothing to help us,” Francesca hisses to the group of almost forty.

“We are the strongest amongst all of the supernatural communities. Humans, shifters, and the vampires should have bowed before us since our dawning. We should not have to hide like rats and live off scraps. We are the best and it’s time that everyone bows before us.

“Another goddess gave her power to one of her own. This opened a doorway to power. A white wolf is pure power, blessed by the goddess Selene herself. Blessed to shepherd her chosen into peace. But in her folly, she forgot that wolves are not superior to witches.

“We hold both of epower. We are able to grant that power to those that pledge loyalty to us. You all have pledged yourself to this. To our noble cause of taking goddesses‘ power for ourselves. We will reign supreme, like we should have since the beginning.

“With the powers of the goddesses‘ power, there is no one who will stand in our way. The old gods will fall. The Alpha council for the werewolves will kneel or bestroyed. We have longed for this day,” she says.

“You sound like a narcissist,” I spit at the witch, interrupting her triad.

“You will bless us with your power and give us the means to confront Hecate and Selene,” Francesca coos as she tries to stroke my face.

“Insane,” I croak, flinching away from the hand.

“Maybe, but the greatest usually have a touch of insanity in them,” she laughs as she grabs my hair in her fist. She pulls my head up as far as the collar and chains will allow.

I let out a hiss of pain and Francesca cackles. She throws my head away from her and it smacks the stone altar. Black spots dance in front of my vision.

“Let offerings begin,” Francesca says as she waves her hand.

“These herbs, may they be an offering to the goddess,” a woman says as she sets a basket of plants beside the altar. The smell of them briefly clouds out the smell of my burning flesh. “May they remind the goddess of the fields that her chosen wander through.”

“This flesh, may it please the goddess herself,” a wolf says as he thumps something large against the floor. The scent of a deer and its blood overwhelm the plants. “May its sacrifice remind the goddess of the lives given so her chosen may be strong.”

“May we serve the new goddess herself,” several people say.

“May the new goddess be pleased with the death of a former chosen,” a male says as he slashes the throat of werewolf.

I blink bleary–eyed as the werewolf slumps without a cry.

Something inside of me stirs. That power that I now know comes from the moon goddess herself. It stirs in anger at everyone in the room. In those trying to sacrifice me, but at the fact that they trying to summon Selene to me.

Francesca starts chanting again in that other language. I don’t know why, but it takes on a lyrical tone as the sounds filter around me.

An explosion rocks the room.
