Tristan's gaze instantly darkened, his eyes brimming with sheer mockery.
"What kind of place do you think my family is? Somewhere you can just waltz into and abandon whenever you please? Or do you honestly believe my temper is so forgiving that you can just manipulate me however you want?"
Nova's face paled. "What do you mean?"
Tristan reached out, pinching her chin and forcing her to look up at him. Staring down at her from his commanding height, he enunciated every single word:
"As long as I don't give the nod, you will stay right where you are as Mrs. Forrester. You can try to sue me. You can try to find someone to help you. I want to see which lawyer in this city dares to take a divorce case against me, and who could possibly beat the legal team I keep on retainer!"
When couples divorce, it usually ends in mutually assured destruction. Where on earth did she get the idea of parting ways amicably?
Nova clenched her fingers into tight fists. "Then what if I expose your relationship with Yvette to the public!"
Tristan was even more unfazed by the threat. His deep voice remained slow and remarkably composed as he spoke:
"From the moment you entered the core operations of the Forrester Group, I knew you were exceptionally smart. Problems that took others countless days and nights to figure out, you brought me the solutions in a matter of hours. Accompanying me to social engagements, it only took you half a month to go from a nervous rookie to a completely flawless, independent asset."
"So why is a woman as smart as you constantly trying to do something so incredibly stupid?"
"You can try, and see if you get what you want."
His complete indifference made Nova painfully aware that her so-called 'mutually assured destruction' was nothing more than a tiny ripple he could crush with a wave of his hand. It wouldn't even qualify as an inconvenience to him.
Tristan lowered his eyes, studying Nova's expression intently.
He applied the exact same ruthless tactics he used in the boardroom to his own wife:
"Your father is currently at Forrester Hospital, being treated by the best medical team. If I say he lives, he won't die. Your brother remains unharmed in prison solely because my power shields him."
At this point, these weren't just threats anymore. They were blatantly telling Nova—look at how much you rely on me; try leaving and see what happens.
