But human beings couldn't live on logic alone.
"Have the baby first. Didn't he agree to let you go abroad?" Samuel said.
He paused, deep in thought. "Nova, are you saying that no matter what you do right now, you can't get a divorce? Then what are you so afraid of?"
Nova didn't quite grasp his underlying meaning. Just as she was about to ask, she saw Caspian walking toward her.
She ended the call. Caspian stopped beside her, his earlier arrogance entirely vanished.
"I'm sorry."
He was a man who owned up to his mistakes, and he admitted he was wrong.
Nova pursed her lips. "What exactly do you mean, Mr. Caldwell?"
Caspian hesitated, then explained his current business crisis.
"Because he mistakenly thought you were the mistress, Mr. Forrester used brutal tactics to seize all my cargo at the Southeast Asian ports. Even in Europe—despite him backing out of the power circles there for some unknown reason—plenty of people still respect him. My European operations are completely stalled."
Nova frowned. "And you're telling me this because?"
"I want to ask you to mediate. I'll apologize to him, and I'll apologize to you. I hope you both can see my sincerity." Caspian looked down.
Nova let out a soft scoff, as if she'd just heard a ridiculous joke. "You've got the wrong person."
Did Caspian really think Tristan had destroyed his business just because he insulted her?
He was completely wrong.
"You should be begging Yvette. You insulted her, you insinuated she was flawed, and that's why Mr. Forrester is furious. He's retaliating against you for her. Of course, there are other reasons too."
But Nova knew none of those reasons had anything to do with her.
"Belinda almost had a heart attack."
Caspian looked at Nova, sudden realization dawning on him.
His eyes filled with a flash of genuine pity—pity for Nova.
But regardless, "I'm sorry for misunderstanding you."
He let out a bitter, self-deprecating laugh. "I just never imagined that the goddess I respected and adored all these years was actually the very thing I despise the most..."
A homewrecker.
Nova didn't say anything.
