Nova walked into her hospital room and glanced down out the window.
Snow had begun to fall over Jeverburg. Lowering her gaze, she saw it... Tristan's car was parked right down there!
At that exact moment, his assistant was walking out of the hospital with a stack of medical records in hand and climbing into the vehicle.
Tristan was investigating her.
Whether he could actually find anything or not, just the intent made Nova's heart skip a beat.
"Samuel, I need to be discharged right now. Instantly!"
She couldn't delay. If she did, Latonia ran the risk of being exposed.
Meanwhile, inside the black luxury car.
The moment Tristan's car door opened, he spotted Dr. Zimmerman getting off her shift.
Naturally, Dr. Zimmerman walked over to greet him. "Mr. Forrester!"
Doctors frequently transferred between hospitals for consults, so her being there wasn't unusual.
Tristan gave a polite, aristocratic nod. As if remembering something, he asked, "How is that premature baby doing?"
Dr. Zimmerman was just about to say the baby was doing perfectly fine when she noticed the file in Tristan's hand. It was Nova's.
Nova's records had been thoroughly masked by Tobias Stratton on behalf of the government. No matter how deep anyone dug, unless they saw it with their own eyes, the official paper trail simply stated she hadn't recovered well from a previous miscarriage and had undergone a routine hysteroscopy.
Nothing more!
"Dead," Dr. Zimmerman said abruptly. She remembered Samuel's strict instructions never to reveal the child's existence, having even signed a non-disclosure agreement with Mr. Stratton's people. "Born at six months. There was no way it was going to survive."
Tristan looked at Dr. Zimmerman, falling silent for a moment. "And the mother?"
Dr. Zimmerman lowered her head, recalling how tragic Nova had looked that day. Even as an experienced obstetrician who had seen it all, her eyes reddened. "She died too. Severe hemorrhaging... Childbirth is incredibly dangerous. Modern medicine is fantastic, but every year, we still lose women on the delivery table."
Dr. Zimmerman had completely shut down the conversation.
