"Where did you get this? Did you find it somewhere?" Chuck demanded, his brows knitting tightly as he stared at Nova.
This was the exact cufflink he had given to the person who dragged him out of the water all those years ago. It had been pitch black, and in his dazed state, he had simply ripped off the most valuable thing on his person and handed it over.
He knew it was a young woman who had saved him. But when he finally woke up in the hospital, Yvette was sitting by his bed. She told him she had been the one to pull him out and bring him to the doctors.
Because of that, he had never even thought to ask if Yvette still had the cufflink.
But today...
Nova snatched the cufflink back out of his hand. "Mr. Clayton, I'd appreciate it if you learned some basic boundaries. Wouldn't you agree?"
Seeing how fiercely she guarded the piece of metal, Chuck's expression hardened.
A very possible, yet shocking answer was suddenly staring him in the face.
But he needed to confirm it with Yvette first.
And he needed an explanation from the woman standing in front of him.
"What is your name?" To this second, Chuck still had absolutely no idea the woman standing before him was Nova.
Nova just found the whole situation utterly pathetic.
She stood up, didn't even spare him a second glance, and turned to walk away.
Chuck felt entirely bewildered. Why was he sensing such intense hatred and disgust radiating from her?
He had only accidentally bumped into her before, and just now he had literally broken her fall, yet she hadn't even offered a real 'thank you.'
"Hey..."
He reached out, desperate to grab her and demand answers.
But right at that moment, a massive commotion erupted.
Screams tore through the air from the direction of the ballroom, and the crowd descended into absolute chaos.
Nova's phone rang at that exact moment. It was Samuel.
She had barely answered, without a second to even speak, when she saw a group of men rushing aggressively toward her side of the deck.
Chuck lunged forward to grab Nova, accidentally slapping her phone out of her hand in the process.
Nova bent down to grab it, but before her fingers could brush the screen, a man charged out of nowhere and violently dragged her backward.
