Nova couldn't afford to care about any of that right now. She only looked at the doctor, desperate. "Will my baby be okay? She was premature... born at six months. My job has been so demanding, I haven't been able to watch her constantly... I saw the nanny abusing her on the camera and rushed over. Please, just tell me if she has any injuries..."
As she spoke, her body trembled violently. Her voice was broken, barely more than a choked whisper.
The doctor asked her to calm down and repeat herself, unable to understand her through the sobs.
Chuck stepped in and repeated it for her.
Nova nodded, trying with everything she had to hold her emotions in check.
Finally, the doctor returned. "The baby is okay. No major issues. Her arm isn't fractured, and we didn't find any traces of sleeping pills in her system. She's likely just passed out from severe exhaustion and shock. You should..."
The doctor, a woman herself, softened as she looked at Nova, finally empathizing with her struggle.
"Keep her here for observation tonight."
Nova nodded and immediately turned to go pay the admission fees.
Chuck stood up. "I'll handle it. You take the baby to the ward."
Nova didn't argue.
Right now, she truly didn't want to leave her daughter's side for a single second.
As Chuck made his way downstairs, he heard someone call his name.
"Chuck!"
Yvette waved at him from a distance, walking over. "Chuck, what are you doing here?"
He turned and saw her approaching.
"I'm here visiting a friend. What about you? Why are you at the hospital this late? Are you not feeling well? Why isn't Tristan with you?"
