Nova had intended to say a quick "thank you" to Tristan the moment she saw him.
But as soon as she got in the car, she realized Yvette had already slid naturally into the backseat next to him.
Nova sat in the front passenger seat, with Chloe driving.
Chloe glanced in the rearview mirror and commented to Nova, "Mr. Forrester really dotes on Yvette, doesn't he? We only got these partnerships because of her, right?"
Nova instinctively looked up at the mirror.
The privacy partition had been raised at some point, obscuring the upper halves of the passengers in the back.
But she could see that Yvette was practically draped over Tristan, their bodies entangled.
It looked exactly like they were... kissing.
The blood in Nova's veins turned to ice.
Knowing Tristan loved Yvette was one thing, but actually seeing it was entirely different.
A sudden, uncontrollable wave of nausea hit her, and she gagged, dry-heaving.
"What's wrong?" Chloe asked, concerned. She pulled the car over and grabbed some tissues for her. "Morning sickness?"
Simultaneously, the privacy partition in the back rolled down.
Chloe rubbed Nova's back. "When my sister was pregnant, she threw up constantly too. Some women have it the whole nine months, some just the first trimester. How far along are you, Nova? Do you have anything tart on you? Eating something sour might help keep it down."
Nova shook her head. "No, I don't. Thank you."
From the moment she got pregnant until the day she lost the baby, she hadn't experienced any morning sickness.
She didn't know why she was throwing up now.
Chloe didn't find it gross at all, warmly waving off her thanks before turning around to apologize to Tristan for the delay.
Nova couldn't see the expressions of the people in the back, but she heard the man's undeniably icy voice.
"If you're pregnant, there's no need to tag along."
"Exactly, Ms. Clarke. We can stop here, and you can just head back to the office," Yvette chimed in with fake concern. "I'll explain it to Mr. Wyndham for you."
