Throughout the rest of the ride, he completely ignored the chatter around him.
Chloe pressed her lips together, confused as to why no one had responded.
She looked at Nova, about to speak again, but Nova sighed. "Just focus on driving."
Still a bit defiant, Chloe muttered under her breath, "Well, tell me I'm wrong. Women who knowingly become the other woman are the worst, aren't they?"
Nova remained silent.
Chloe kept going.
"What do you think of your husband? Do you think he'd ever cheat on you?" She genuinely wanted to warn Nova to keep her guard up so she wouldn't end up like her mother, but the girl was just too blunt for her own good.
Her voice wasn't loud, but it wasn't quiet either. Everyone in the car heard it perfectly.
Nova frowned, wanting to tell Chloe to drop it, but accidentally met the eyes of the man in the backseat again.
His gaze was heavy and utterly freezing.
Nova's heart skipped a beat.
She suddenly had the terrifying realization that he was not going to let Chloe off the hook for this.
Sure enough, the moment they arrived and stepped out of the car, Chloe came running over in an absolute panic, her face deathly pale.
"Nova, I have to go home right now. My dad just called—a ton of our corporate partners abruptly pulled out of their deals with us. He asked me if I stirred up some massive trouble outside. I have to go back. I texted Mr. Wyndham, and he's on his way here."
Nova nodded, telling her to drive safe.
Watching her leave, Nova quickly turned to search for Tristan.
Chloe's core character was good. Nova needed to speak with Tristan and beg him to show some mercy.
Spotting him up ahead, Nova hurried over, desperate for a moment to plead her case.
But Yvette was glued to his side, monopolizing every second of his attention.
Nova marched straight up to them and stated, "Mr. Forrester, I need to speak with you. Can we have a private word?"
Yvette frowned, glaring at Nova with clear displeasure.
Ignoring her, Nova kept her eyes on Tristan's back and repeated, "Mr. Forrester, I need to ask you for a private word."
Tristan stopped walking and cast a sidelong glance at her.
Nova's throat tightened. She instinctively sensed his irritation.
"If it's not strictly business, there's no need to discuss it."
She was right.
