Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 145

Ethan was still reeling from the news of Mara’s critical condition when he heard his father order him to go capture Mira.

“Dad, is that really a good idea?”

“What’s good or not good about it? Are you just going to stand here and watch Mara die? It’s settled. Go now.”

He then looked at the assistant beside him. “Go pick out the best men.”

Out of Ethan’s line of sight, he gestured to the assistant, signaling him to instruct the experts to seize Mira on sight. He knew his eldest son’s character and worried that Ethan would be too soft to act.

Ethan, however, was thinking that this was the only option left. He would try to persuade Mira one more time.

“I have to get to the office. There’s a pile of things to handle there. You must bring Mira back. I’ll leave Mara in your second brother’s hands,” Mr. Mercer instructed.

That was true. With all of them at the hospital, who knew what was happening at the company? Had news of this incident spread online?

Ethan nodded and went to make preparations.

With the men of the family gone on their missions, Lacey was left to pace outside the hospital room alone.

She sobbed as she called Wesley. “Mara is on the brink of death, and it’s all because of you! You haven’t even come to the hospital to see her once. Are you even a man?”

“Ma’am, I’m Natalie’s fiancé now. I have to maintain a proper distance. The matter of her pregnancy was supposed to have been handled. We compensated you with a huge piece of land and provided all the necessary funds. Why didn’t she go through with the procedure? Besides, what happened at the hotel was a trap set by Mara. She drugged my drink. You’re not unaware of that.”

If she had just dealt with it sooner, none of this would have happened.

With that, Wesley hung up, leaving Lacey seething with anger.

The Mercer family was powerless to retaliate against Natalie. The Rivers family was just as prominent, and in a situation like this, their first priority was to protect their own daughter. Everything else would be settled with money.

Mira checked and found that there were no significant reports about the incident online. It was likely suppressed by the powerful families involved, as letting the story spread would benefit none of them.

After her first martial arts class, during a break, Mira was scrolling through her phone with a cup of water when the front desk called to say she had a visitor.
