"Is... is this Mr. Mercer? It's... it's bad. Those two songs from Solflare Entertainment are climbing the charts."
The voice of Mercer Vision Entertainment's general manager came through the phone.
It was on speaker, so everyone could hear.
"Why is he stuttering and stammering like that? I really don't know how he became a general manager," Adrian said angrily.
Wasn't it normal for other songs to move up and down the charts? As long as they didn't surpass theirs, it was fine. Why was a general manager acting so flustered? Perhaps it was time to reconsider his employment.
"Speak clearly. What exactly happened?" Ethan said loudly.
"Well, it's like this..." The general manager struggled to organize his thoughts, so Mr. Hale took the phone to explain the situation.
They had all had quite a bit to drink at the victory party the day before. On top of that, knowing their company had won, they had all relaxed and gone home to rest, not bothering to leave anyone to monitor the charts. When they woke up, it was like the sky had fallen.
They had chewed out the public relations department, scrambled to do damage control, and even thrown more money at the problem, but nothing worked.
The top executives were currently trying to figure out how to explain the situation.
"What on earth is going on?" Adrian asked Ethan.
"Dad, those two songs from Solflare Entertainment have shot up the charts. They've already taken the top spots everywhere."
"What? Solflare Entertainment? That's just some puny little company! Get the PR team on it! Why are they calling me now?" They had managed to suppress major companies like Porter Entertainment and Aura Media Group; were they supposed to be afraid of some small-time operation?
"Tell them to find a way to push those songs down, and the bonuses I promised will still be paid out."
Little did he know, the executives at Mercer Vision Entertainment were worried sick. They would be lucky not to be punished or fired; no one was even thinking about bonuses anymore.
Public relations? Emergency damage control with more money? They had already tried that. The problem was, their rival hadn't climbed the charts through paid advertising.
They had done it with a solid user base, one that grew exponentially through word-of-mouth.
