“What do you want from me?”
“Mira, you should come home. Apologize to Mom and Dad, and I’ll put in a good word for you. I’m sure they won’t hold it against you,” Julian said as soon as they met.
“Why do you want me to come back?”
“We were brother and sister. No matter how bad things got, we were once family. It doesn’t feel right for you to just leave like this.”
“How ironic. When I was at home, you were always the one yelling the loudest whenever I argued with Mara, always afraid my punishment would be too light. Now that I’m gone, you want me back. I’m starting to think you feel the Mercers didn't abuse me enough and you want to keep bullying me.”
“Mira, how can you say that? We’re your family, don’t you get it? No one ever bullied you!” Julian retorted angrily.
Wesley chimed in, “Julian’s right. We’re all family. There’s no need to hold a grudge. Let’s not let this get out of hand.”
Mira shot a glare at Wesley. “It’s easy for you to say. This has nothing to do with you, so stay out of it.”
Then, she turned back to Julian, whose handsome, chiseled face was still flushed with anger.
Mira couldn’t deny that there was still a sliver of a sibling bond between them. In her past life, he was the most devastated by her death and constantly caused trouble for Mara afterward.
But so what? His unconditional support for Mara, which made him her accomplice, made him unworthy of forgiveness. The moment Adrian decided to use the entire ransom to save Mara alone and he didn't object, any shred of sibling affection between them had vanished.
“If that’s what you think, then I have nothing more to say to you. I’m telling you, I’m never going back, so stop wasting your time. The moment I left the Mercer family, all our family ties were severed.”
