Too Late To Love Me I Already Left With His Twins (Lydia and Dave) novel Chapter 279

Dave POV

“Move over.”

“Anna!”

“Come on!”

“Auntie!”

“Everybody squeeze!”

Eli groaned.

“You’re ruining it.”

“No, I’m improving it.”

She squeezed tighter.

“I’ve been excluded from my own hug.”

“You were never in it,” Eli said.

“Details.”

Eventually, Anna released us and stepped back.

“Okay, I’m stealing your dad for a little moment.”

Eli immediately frowned.

“Why?”

“Because adults need to talk sometimes.”

He narrowed his eyes.

“About what?”

“Adult things.”

“That sounds suspicious.”

I laughed.

Anna pointed toward the table.

“But first…”

She pulled out the first container.

“Look at these breakfast platters I got for you.”

Ava sat up straighter.

Eli’s eyes widened.

“Whoa.”

I looked at the table.

“Anna…”

She grinned.

“I know.”

There were pancakes stacked into little dinosaur shapes.

Not just ordinary dinosaur shapes either.

There were different dinosaurs.

A long-necked one.

A little T-rex.

Something that looked like a stegosaurus.

And then there were eggs cut into tiny stars, fruit arranged into planets, little blueberries scattered around like stars in space, and toast cut into crescent moons.

There were tiny sausages arranged like rockets.

Yogurt cups with little toppings beside them.

Even the pancakes had tiny chocolate details that made the dinosaurs look almost alive.

Eli climbed halfway out of his bed.

“Is that a T-rex?”

Anna nodded proudly.

“Yes.”

“And that’s a triceratops?”

“Yes.”

“And that’s a stegosaurus?”

“Yes.”

He stared at the food.

Then at Anna.

“I love you.”

Anna smiled.

“I know.”

Ava was already pointing.

“Wait, wait, wait.”

She leaned closer.

“Is that actually Saturn?”

Anna looked at the plate.

“Technically, yes.”

“Technically?”

“Yes.”

“Why technically?”

“Because it’s a pancake.”

Eli looked offended.

“That’s not Saturn.”

“It has rings.”

“Lots of things have rings.”

“Okay, Mr. Scientist.”

Ava picked up one of the fruit pieces.

“Is this supposed to be Jupiter?”

“Yes.”

“How do you know?”

“Because I said so.”

“That doesn’t make it scientifically accurate.”

Anna looked at me.

“Your children are already criticizing my breakfast.”

I laughed.

“You made a mistake bringing them themed food.”

Eli pointed at another pancake.

“And what’s that?”

“A dinosaur.”

“What dinosaur?”

“A dinosaur.”

“That doesn’t answer the question.”

Anna sighed dramatically.

“I don’t know, Eli.”

He looked at Ava.

“She doesn’t know.”

The moment we stepped into the hallway, the atmosphere changed.

Anna folded her arms.

“Dr. Sana should be here in the next ten to thirty minutes.”

I nodded.

“Okay.”

“She wants to start with the kids.”

I looked through the glass panel at Ava and Eli.

“They’re eating.”

“I know.”

“They seem better.”

“They are better than yesterday.”

I looked back at her.

“But?”

Anna sighed.

“But this is still a lot for them.”

I nodded slowly.

“And after them?”

“Lydia.”

My stomach tightened.

“Right.”

“She wants to speak to you too, eventually.”

“Of course.”

Anna looked at me for a moment.

“I just wanted you to know before she gets here.”

I rubbed the back of my neck.

“Okay.”

Anna reached out and squeezed my arm.

“Brace yourself.”

I looked at her.

“For what?”

She gave me a tired little smile.

“For everything.”

I looked through the glass again.

Ava was laughing at something Eli had said.

My kids.

My beautiful kids.

The same two children who had collapsed yesterday because the woman they called Mom had looked directly at them and couldn’t remember who they were.

And somewhere down the hallway was Lydia.

My wife.

The woman I loved.

The woman who had somehow woken up from a coma only to wake up without us.

I took a deep breath.

Then another.

Dr. Sana was coming.

And this time, I knew we couldn’t run from whatever came next.

We had to face it.
