Words being said.
None of it landing.
Because my mind had already left the room.
Left the call.
Was somewhere else entirely.
8 hours ahead.
In the same city.
With her.
I exhaled quietly.
“Send me a summary,” I said.
“Sir, we’re still discussing-”
“Send me a summary,” I repeated.
A pause.
“Yes, sir.”
+1589
Closed the laptop.
hd sat there for a second.
Still.
Then I checked the time again.
4:52 a.m.
At least something useful was happening.
Morning.
Finally.
By 5 a.m., I was already in the shower.
Cold water.
Sharp.
Exactly what I needed.
Clears the head.
Resets things.
Or at least, it’s supposed to.
I stood there longer than necessary.
Letting the water run.
Trying not to think.
Coffee.
Strong.
Warm.
Familiar.
Too familiar.
It stopped me mid step.
Because it smelled like her.
Not exactly.
But close enough to be… unsettling.
I let out a small breath.
“Nice,” I muttered. “What a welcome.”
I shook it off and kept walking.
Not far from the hotel, there was a small garden.
Nothing fancy.
Just clean.
Quiet.
