CHAPTER 385: WHORING YOURSELF

EMBER’S POV

“Silas!” Devika shrieks from the floor, her composure shattering. “Don’t just stand there, kill him! Butcher him right this second!”

Silas doesn’t even glance at her. He just chuckles, a dark, rumbling sound that vibrates through the massive room.

He steps closer, his dark eyes looking Knox up and down, dissecting the heavy rise and fall of the Alpha’s chest.

“You bluff well for a man who doesn’t look so good,” Silas murmurs, highly amused. “What’s wrong, Wolf King? Your woman didn’t fuck you well enough before you came?”

A guttural, chest-rattling growl rips out of Knox.

Silas’s smile widens.

“Or let me guess. Dead-nettle poison to mask your scent?”

My heart drops straight into my stomach.

I stare at the massive crime lord, completely paralysed. He figured it out.

He took one look at Knox’s slowed reflexes, the blood that wasn’t clotting, and he decoded the exact poison we used in a matter of seconds.

Silas chuckles again, shaking his head slowly like he is watching toddlers try to play a rigged

game.

“You pack filth,” Silas says, his voice dripping with absolute disdain. “You are always so terribly predictable. So unoriginal. You almost make it too easy.” He looks between Knox and me, his lip curling. “Did you really think a few awful facial masks and your girl’s completely horrible accent were enough to hide the stench of a vile bloodline?”

Silas turns his head and spits on the carpet in pure disgust. He takes another step, coming chest-to-chest with Knox, entirely unbothered by the fact that Knox has a gun levelled at Devika’s head.

“I smelt the rot in your veins the second your car pulled into my driveway, and you walked into my home,” Silas says, his voice dropping into a lethal rasp. “I am not known as the butchering rogue for nothing, Volkov. I have killed a hundred alphas in my life, and the Lycan King would simply be one more.”

The floor falls out from underry feat

He knew

From the absolute moment we walked through the golden doors, he knew exactly who we

Were

All of my careful acting, the forged IDs, the nerve-wracking manoeuvring through the VIP tiers -it was all completely in vain. A hot, suffocating wave of embarrassment and confusion floods my chest

Knox doesn’t flinch. He leans forward, closing the remaining inch between himself and the rogue lord, his fangs fully bared.

“Kill me then,” Knox whispers. “I dare you.”

Silas opens his mouth, his dark eyes flashing, but I can’t take it anymore.

“If you knew,” I cut in, my voice shaking with angry exhaustion. “If you knew exactly who we were, why did you let us in? Why let me get through your floors? Why let your staff serve me and play along like I was just another guest?”

Silas stops.

For the very first time since he stepped out of the elevator, the terrifying rogue turns his head and actually looks at me.

“True wolves have an appetite for carnage, little girl,” Silas says smoothly, his dark eyes locking onto mine. “Not the bullshit etiquette they teach you in your cute little packs. We hunt. We wait. And we corner.”

He flashes a chilling, arrogant grin, fully aware that we are hopelessly trapped in the centre of an armed room.

“Moreover, I was curious,” Silas continues. “No one comes here for nothing. It is always a thrill to see what drives fools into my home-especially ones desperate enough to start a war, spill blood on my floors, and harass the lady of my house.”

“You tell them, darling! Tell them how easily you’re going to rip their heads off! Start with the girl! She’s a brat!” Devika cheers.

And I have had enough.

I’m exhausted. I’m terrified.

because of me, and the woman on her knees is preening for a crime lord’s approval despite the barrel against her skull, trying to hand her own daughter to a firing squad like a party trick.

If I’m going to die on this casino floor, I’m not going quietly. I’m taking that smug, triumphant look off Devika Aragon’s face on my way out.
