Chapter 180: Do you want to end the contract

The bathroom door clicked open, and Xander stepped out, absently running a towel through his damp hair.

He glanced at Ivy, who was already tucked beneath the covers.

"I thought you were exhausted," he remarked with a faint smile, tossing the towel aside before sliding into bed beside her.

Ivy offered an awkward smile.

"I couldn’t fall asleep without you."

Without hesitation, she wrapped an arm around his waist and rested her head against his chest.

The room fell into a comfortable silence. Xander gently threaded his fingers through her hair, the rhythmic motion calming them both.

After a few minutes, Ivy tilted her head to look at him.

"About Black Veil... what are you planning to do?"

Xander’s expression remained composed.

"I’ve already declared war," he replied evenly. "By now, their leader has probably received the message. I expect he’ll come looking for me."

"What?" Ivy shot upright, staring at him in disbelief. "Are you serious?"

Having worked as an assassin for years, Raven had always relied on careful planning and patience. She had never rushed into a confrontation without calculating every possible outcome. Seeing Xander speak so calmly about provoking one of the most dangerous organizations in the underworld unsettled her.

Yet Xander remained unfazed.

"Don’t worry," he said, gently taking her hand. "I’ve made sure they can’t get anywhere near you or Leo. He’ll come after me, not my family—and that’s exactly what I want."

He had no intention of showing mercy to the man responsible for his parents’ deaths. Rather than launch a small strike, he had ordered his team to dismantle one of Black Veil’s largest operational bases, ensuring the attack couldn’t be ignored.

When Ivy stayed silent, lost in thought, Xander reached out and pulled her back against him.

"I’m not acting recklessly," he murmured. "Everything was planned. We crippled one of their strongest facilities and forced them into the open. Now they’ll have no choice but to face me."

There was no hesitation in his voice and no trace of regret. His words carried the quiet certainty of someone who had already accepted the cost of war.

Ivy couldn’t help recalling what Edward had told her about the night Xander’s parents died. In the face of a fatal attack, they had shielded their son with their own bodies, sacrificing themselves to save him.

Even in their final moments, all they had thought about was their child.

Xander had survived that tragedy, but the scars it left behind ran far deeper than anyone could see. The memories haunted him for years, and climbing out of that darkness had taken incredible strength.

As she studied his face, another thought crossed Ivy’s mind.

For years, Xander had shown little interest in romance or women. His emotional walls were so high that even his grandfather had worried he would remain alone forever, leaving the Emerson family without an heir.

Desperate, the old man had once arranged for a woman to seduce him, hoping to force fate’s hand.

But events hadn’t unfolded as planned.

Before that scheme could succeed, circumstances had unexpectedly brought Ivy and Xander together, forever altering the course of both their lives.

But why don’t I remember any of it? Ivy wondered.

By now, most of Ivy’s memories had returned. She remembered her days with the Ford family, leaving them behind, and eventually working under Nathan. Yet the period when she met Xander remained frustratingly blank.

That missing piece left her with countless questions.

Had she really spent that night with him? Was Leo truly her biological son?

After a moment of hesitation, she looked up at Xander. "Can I ask you something?"

"Of course."

"How did you know it was me that night?"

Xander’s brows lifted slightly.

"From everything I’ve heard, we were both drugged and barely conscious," Ivy continued. "Neither of us remembered much afterward. The woman who was supposed to be with you wasn’t even me. So... how were you so certain it was?"

For a few seconds, Xander remained silent, as though deciding how much to reveal.

Finally, he let out a slow breath.

"I’ve never told many people this," he admitted. "For years, I had a medical condition that left me with almost no physical attraction or desire. Doctors couldn’t fully explain it, and no treatment ever made a difference."

He turned to meet her gaze.

"But that night was different."

"The moment we were together, something changed. It was the first time in my life that the condition simply... disappeared."

Ivy blinked in surprise.

"Afterward," Xander continued, "everything returned to the way it had always been. Nothing changed until you came back into my life."

He gave a small, almost self-conscious smile.

"Whenever I was near you, I realized the same feelings returned. That was when I became certain the woman from that night had been you."

Ivy searched his face, looking for any sign that he was joking, but found only quiet sincerity.

"So you trusted your instincts?"
