Meanwhile, news of Nora’s bail reached Xander, and his expression darkened.
"Who helped them?" he asked, looking at Taylor.
Ever since Nora’s arrest, Xander had kept a close watch on the Ford family. He knew that after he refused to help Florine, she wouldn’t simply sit back and let her daughter remain in jail.
"It was Gavin," Taylor reported. "From what I’ve found, he even has connections with France."
At the mention of France’s name, Xander’s eyes turned icy.
France.
Just hearing that name was enough to stir the anger buried deep inside him. But what irritated him even more was the fact that Gavin had once again chosen to interfere in his affairs.
"So Gavin still hasn’t taken my warning seriously," Xander said coldly.
Taylor straightened. "What do you want me to do, Boss?"
Xander had no idea when Gavin and France had crossed paths, but knowing France, he could already guess who had initiated the connection.
"I want a complete report," Xander ordered. "Find out when Gavin met France, how they got involved with each other, and what exactly they’re planning."
"Understood."
Taylor nodded before quietly leaving the office.
Left alone, Xander leaned back in his chair, his thoughts running through countless possibilities. Just then, his phone rang.
The moment he saw the caller ID, the coldness in his eyes softened.
He answered immediately.
"Nora got bailed out," Ivy said without any greeting, her voice tense.
"I know."
His calm reply caught her off guard.
"You already know?"
"I expected Florine to find a way to get her daughter out," Xander replied. "She was never going to let Nora rot in jail. What I didn’t expect was for her to get help from someone she had no connection with."
Ivy frowned.
"Who?"
"Gavin."
Silence lingered on the other end of the line as Ivy tried to process what she had just heard.
"Why would Florine ask Gavin for help?"
"She didn’t," Xander corrected. "At least, not directly."
"What do you mean?"
"Someone introduced them. Florine had no way of reaching Gavin on her own." Xander’s voice turned thoughtful. "The real question is... who arranged that meeting, and why?"
Ivy’s brows knitted together.
"You think someone is pulling the strings?"
"It’s possible," Xander replied. "Florine is desperate, but she’s not well-connected enough to approach Gavin. Someone had to bridge that gap."
Ivy fell silent, replaying everything that had happened over the past few days.
"Who do you think it might be?" she asked.
"France"
His words made Ivy confused. "France? How would he even know Gavin?" she asked.
France was someone who was always busy gambling and wasting his mother’s money. She doubted he even had that connection knowing how lame is was.
"I don’t know when the two of them became acquainted, but Gavin has always had a habit of interfering whenever my affairs are involved."
There was a brief pause before Ivy asked, "Then... is France working with him?"
"I won’t jump to conclusions until I have proof," Xander said calmly. "But if France is choosing to stand on Gavin’s side, then he’s making himself my enemy."
His tone remained even, but Ivy could hear the warning beneath it.
She sighed. "This is getting more complicated than I thought."
"It was never going to stay simple."
Xander stood and walked toward the floor-to-ceiling window of his office. Looking down at the bustling city below, his gaze grew distant.
"I only wanted to teach Nora a lesson for messing with my woman," Xander said, his voice as cold as ice. "Looks like she still has a lot to learn."
His words left Ivy momentarily speechless.
After ending the call, she sat quietly, her thoughts in turmoil. It wasn’t Xander’s warning that unsettled her the most—it was the unexpected revelation.
"France and Gavin are working together..."
She murmured the words under her breath, still trying to make sense of them.
Until now, she had never imagined Gavin would deliberately involve himself in Xander’s affairs. In her mind, Gavin had always been someone who stayed away from unnecessary conflicts.
But she had been wrong.
Only now did she remember that Xander’s relationship with his family had never been a warm one. Except for Aaron, most of his relatives had never truly accepted him.
And among them, his cousins had always been the most hostile.
If Gavin had really chosen to stand with France...
Then this was no longer just about Nora or the Ford family.
It had become a conflict within the Emerson family itself.

[Ford Residence]
"My baby... look at you," Florine said as she pulled Nora into a tight embrace. "You’ve become so thin in just two days."
The moment Nora stepped through the front door, Florine finally let out the breath she had been holding. For the past forty-eight hours, she had barely eaten or slept, terrified that her daughter would have to spend even longer behind bars.
Nora returned the hug, but only for a brief moment before pulling away.
The experience in the detention cell had left her physically exhausted, yet it was the humiliation that hurt the most. Every minute she had spent there had fueled her anger.
"It’s all Ivy’s fault," Nora snapped. "If it weren’t for her, Polly and Olivia would never have turned against me."
Florine’s face darkened.
She had already told Nora everything that had happened while she was in custody—how she had swallowed her pride and gone to Ivy for help, only to be rejected. She had even approached Xander personally, but he hadn’t shown the slightest intention of helping.
