Chapter 345 Ruby’s Bitter Realization
What frustrated her even more was that the medicine had actually worked!
Naomi studied Ruby with a worried expression. “Was there something wrong with the medicine she gave you?”
To prescribe something without even a proper examination first–even for a protégé of Aletta–seemed reckless.

“It’s because there was nothing wrong with it that I feel this way,” Ruby said, lowering her voice. “This illness of mine wasn’t just bad luck. That medicine Arabella had was practically made for my specific symptoms from the start.”
“Are you saying Arabella made you sick?” Naomi found that hard to believe. “That can’t be right… can it?”
Ruby let out a cold, humorless laugh. “Why couldn’t she? She not only did it, she didn’t even try to hide it. She just handed me a bottle of pre–made medicine. That wasn’t saving me–it was a slap in the face!”
Naomi frowned, still unconvinced. “I don’t know, Ruby. I’m not following your logic.”
How could Ruby be so sure Arabella was behind it?
“Think about it. On the day it happened, I was with you the whole time. You know everything I ate and drank–it was all the usual stuff. How could I suddenly get so sick? And no one else had a problem, only me.
“Besides, Arabella didn’t check me over at all, and the medicine she happened to have on hand cured me almost immediately. Doesn’t that seem a little too convenient to you?”
Naomi tilted her head, considering. “Maybe… but Arabella wasn’t even there with us that day. How could she have done anything?”
When they were out, Arabella had no way of knowing. She wasn’t present–she couldn’t have possibly done anything!
Ruby’s eyes darkened. “I don’t know how she did it. But I know it was her.”
“Then why not tell my parents? Or yours?” Naomi asked.
“I don’t have any proof. It’s just my word. They’d never believe me–they’d just tell me off again for causing trouble.” Ruby gritted her teeth. She didn’t want to invite another lecture.
“Well…” Naomi tried to sound soothing. “Maybe you’re just reading too much into it?”
Ruby laughed at herself bitterly. “See? Even you don’t believe me. Who else would?”
“I…” Naomi put a comforting hand on Ruby’s shoulder. “It’s not that I don’t believe you It’s just that what you’re suggesting is really hard to picture.”
“That’s exactly why I’m telling myself to cool down. From now on, I won’t pick any more obvious fights with Arabella To deal with someone who plays games, you have to play smarter.” After getting burned, she had to learn.
Naomi looked at Ruby closely. “What are you planning to do?”
“I’m not rushing it. We’ll take it slow. Let her enjoy being on top for a little while. For now, she was playing the role of the reformed good girl. She needed everyone to lower their guard.
Watching Ruby, Naomi felt a faint, inexplicable chill and frowned slightly.

Ruby seemed like a different person now, someone she barely recognized.

Not wanting to dwell on her anger, Ruby changed the subject. “Naomi, when I called you earlier, you said you were at the mall with Mr. Stewart. What happened after that?”
Hearing this, Naomi’s mood instantly soured. “Nothing, really. We just went our separate ways.”
“That’s it?!” Ruby was incredulous. “It was the perfect chance! Why didn’t you ask him to dinner, or to see a movie–something to spend more time together?”
“I wanted to.” Naomi sighed and gave Ruby a rough summary of the day’s events.
Ruby’s eyes widened. “So Arabella was there too, and she showed you up?”
“It was so humiliating. I don’t even know how I’m going to face Matthew next time,” Naomi said, her eyes beginning to glisten.
“Don’t worry. Your birthday party is coming up soon, and Mr. Stewart will be there. I’ll help you then,” Ruby reassured her.
“Help me?” Naomi felt a flicker of hope. Did she still have a chance?
“Of course. I’m not going to let Arabella have everything her way,” Ruby said angrily. “You think it was a coincidence they met, but Arabella totally sought Mr. Stewart out on purpose. You were just too trusting to see it.”
Someone as cunning as Arabella–she’d seen through her act a long time ago.
Hearing this, Naomi felt a little better and sighed. “Ruby, I’m really glad I have you on my side.”
“You’re all I have too, Naomi,” Ruby said, feeling a pang of genuine sadness for a moment.
She was determined to make everyone see Arabella for who she really was.
Two days passed in the blink of an eye.
The area in front of Macdonald Capital‘ entrance had been set up for the opening–nothing overly extravagant, but arranged with simple, clean elegance.
Since Edward was just starting out in the business world, without an established network of friends or partners yet, he had kept the opening ceremony relatively low key.
Just as the final touches were being put in place, a sleek, high–end sports car pulled up in front of Macdonald Capital
“Whoa, who’s that?”
“No idea. The company’s literally opening today–could they already have a big client?”
“Whoever it is, they’ve got serious money or connections. Must be a good sign”
