Chapter 368 Failed Assassination Attempt
“Mr. Stewart, I’ll be on my way now,” Arabella said, standing up to take her leave.
Matthew gave a slight nod. “I’ll be in touch if there are any developments.”
“Alright.” After a brief nod in return, Arabella left Matthew’s office.
Once outside the door, the color in Arabella’s eyes darkened thoughtfully.

Today’s incident had been a premeditated trap. If Matthew hadn’t happened to be passing by at that exact moment, she would
have been in serious trouble.
“But who could have known I’d be at that intersection at that specific time?” Her decision to visit Edward had been made on the spur of the moment.
Her brow furrowed slightly, and her deep, thoughtful eyes held a trace of icy coldness.
Dylan and Harper returned to Macdonald Villa, their expressions grim.
“What on earth happened to you two?” Freya asked with concern as soon as she saw them.
“Nothing.” Harper shook her head, attempting to brush it off.
“With your face as white as a sheet, you call that nothing? Are you feeling ill?” Freya clearly wasn’t convinced.
Harper could only offer a vague reply. “Maybe a little under the weather.”
“Then go lie down in your room straight away. I’ll have the doctor come by later,” Freya instructed.
“No need for a doctor. I’ll be fine after some rest,” Harper said as she stood up, her movements lacking their usual energy.
Dylan rose to follow. “Freya, I’ll help her upstairs.”
“Alright. Look after her. We’ll call you when dinner is ready,” Freya said, her gaze full of maternal concern as it followed Harper,
“Mm.” With a quiet agreement, Harper and Dylan made their way upstairs.
Back in Harper’s bedroom, her legs finally gave way, and she nearly collapsed onto the floor.
Dylan caught her just in time. “Easy, now. Sit on the bed.”
After helping Harper settle onto the edge of the bed, Dylan himself seemed to have used up his last reserves of strength, slumping down beside her.
“Dylan, that idiot driver hit Mr. Stewart. What are we going to do?” Harper whispered, panic–stricken, her hand clutching Dylan’s sleeve trembling slightly.
They had gone out hoping to see Arabella get her comeuppance, but instead, they had landed themselves in a catastrophic situation.

Dylan was equally flustered. That man was Matthew. He was truly finished this time!
“Dylan, say something!” Harper pushed at his arm anxiously.
Dylan swayed from the push, almost tumbling off the bed.
“Hey!” Harper grabbed his arm to steady him, complaining, “What are you even thinking about?”
She was scared out of her wits, and he was just sitting there zoning out!

A cold sweat broke out on Dylan’s forehead. He glanced at Harper and stammered, “N–nothing. Just… just trying to think of a way
out.”
Even though terror was clawing at his insides, he couldn’t show it in front of Harper.
“So tell me, what should we do?” Harper’s hope flickered back to life as she looked at him with desperate expectation.
Taking a shaky, deep breath, Dylan said, “Don’t panic yet. Mr. Stewart hasn’t found out it was us. We didn’t do anything. As for the driver… I’ll find a way to handle him, make sure he keeps his mouth shut.”
Hearing this, Harper praised him, her voice a little breathless. “Mm, you always have a plan.”
If they could silence the driver, then they were safe.
Dylan forced a weak smile, though the unease was still a knot in his stomach.
Feeling slightly reassured, Harper’s resentment resurfaced. “What a waste of a perfect opportunity.”
“Mm,” Dylan responded absently.
He had no mental energy left for scheming against Arabella right now. His only concern was whether he could navigate his way past Matthew unscathed.
“Harper, I should head home now,” Dylan said, getting to his feet.
“Aren’t you staying for dinner?” Harper sounded reluctant.
Dylan shook his head. “I need to get back and.., deal with this situation.”
Understanding the urgency, Harper conceded. “Alright then.”
“Be good. I’ll come see you another day.” Dylan patted Harper on the head mechanically.
“At least give me a kiss goodbye.” Harper tilted her head up slightly, pursing her lips.
Dylan leaned down and gave her a quick, perfunctory peck, then turned and hurried out of the room.
“Dylan, remember to come see me soon!” Harper called after his retreating back, a flicker of dissatisfaction in her eyes.
Watching the door close, Harper gritted her teeth, gathered herself, and went back downstairs.
“Harper, why did Dylan leave in such a hurry?” Freya couldn’t help but ask.
“He had some business to take care of. He won’t be staying for dinner,” Harper explained casually before sinking onto the living

room sofa.
Freya studied her daughter’s face. “You do look a little better. Feeling alright now?”
“Mm, much better after resting,” Harper said.
Freya seemed somewhat reassured. “Good, that’s good.”
“Harper, after your movie, didn’t you go shopping? I see you didn’t buy anything.” Freya’s tone held a hint of criticism. Dylan was becoming more and more stingy. What was the point of that?
“Mom, actually… we didn’t go to the movies. We went to find Edward…” Harper proceeded to tell Freya everything that had happened at Edward’s office.
Freya’s expression turned bitter. “That wretched girl dares to seek out Edward again.”
“Mom, you can’t just blame Arabella. You should talk to my brother too. What he did was really too much!” Harper seized the chance to complain bitterly.
“Hmph, your brother certainly needs to be taught a lesson. Otherwise, he’ll never understand that our patience with him has its limits,” Freya said, her eyes turning cold.

I started the novel with great interest. In the beginning the storyline was captivating. Then I feel that the more the story advances, the twists were no longer great. Moreover I don't like Arabella s personality, cold, distant......
