Chapter 416 Hidden Resentment
She was terrified of getting another lecture from her dad, or worse–getting kicked out.

“The doctor said you’re not supposed to overthink right now. Just take your meds and get some sleep. Rest will do you good,” Naomi advised.
“Yeah, I am pretty tired,” Ruby said, yawning.
Naomi urged her, “Then go to bed early. I’ve got a document to review, so I’ll be up a bit later.”
“Okay.” Ruby washed up and climbed into bed.
Maybe it was the medication, but she was out within minutes.
Naomi glanced at her, her expression darkening slightly.
She pulled open a drawer and took out a dazzling diamond necklace.
This was the one Florence had given to Arabella–the one Naomi had taken for herself. Her original necklace was just a string of pearls, nothing compared to this.
“I should be the one wearing this. I should be the one who shines the brightest,” Naomi murmured, her face shadowed.
The next morning, the sun was bright.
Naomi and Ruby came downstairs, both looking exhausted.
“What happened to you two?” Florence asked, concerned. “Naomi, tonight’s your birthday party–you’re supposed to look beautiful!”
“Mom,” Naomi said tiredly. “Ruby had nightmares all night and kept me up too.”
She knew today was important, but there wasn’t much she could do about it.
Florence sighed. “Ruby, didn’t you take your medicine?”
“I did, but it didn’t really help,” Ruby said flatly.
She felt like she was being slowly worn down, like she was on the verge of breaking.
“Naomi, you can’t go like this. Take the day off–I’ll take you to the spa, get you freshened up,” Florence decided. “On a day like this, I want everything about you to be perfect.”
“Thanks, Mom,” Naomi said gratefully.
“Don’t be silly, no need to thank me.” Florence patted her arm. “Let’s eat first, then we’ll go.”
Ruby spoke up, “Aunt Florence, can I come too?”
Florence glanced at her and nodded. “Alright, you can join us.”
The rest of the family gradually came downstairs and gathered in the dining room.

“Don’t be late for the party tonight,” Florence reminded everyone.
“Don’t worry, Mom, we remember,” Ethan assured her.
Frank said, “I’m heading to the office first. After lunch, I’ll go pick up Grandma and Grandpa and bring them over.”
“Good, then they’re in your hands.” Florence nodded.
After breakfast, everyone left the estate one by one.
Alfred walked with Arabella. “What time are you planning to leave work today? I’ll come get you.”
‘Don’t worry about it. I can get myself there,” Arabella said with a smile.

‘You’re going as my date, so you still need to get dressed up. I already booked a stylist for you. We’ll get ready first, then head back,” Alfred insisted.
Hearing that, Arabella had no choice but to agree. “Alright, fine.”
Alfred tilted his head toward the car. “Get in.”
Arabella smiled and climbed in.
After dropping her off at the flight school, Alfred reminded her, “Text me when you’re done here. I’ll come pick you up.”
‘No, it’s okay. I’ll just book a car to the office,” Arabella said, not wanting him to drive back and forth.
Alfred shook his head. “Booking a car is a hassle. I’d rather come get you.”
Really, it’s fine. Besides, I never know exactly when I’ll be done here,” Arabella explained. “Why don’t you just swing by my office fter work instead?”
Alfred hesitated for a moment but finally agreed. “Alright, fine.”
Wait for me after work, okay?” he added another reminder.
I know.” Arabella smiled, amused. She wasn’t a kid–he didn’t need to keep repeating himself.
I’m off.” Alfred gave her an affectionate smile before driving away.
Watching the car disappear, Arabella turned with a smile and walked into the flight school.
‘Arabella!” Lucas spotted her from across the lot and waved.
She waved back and walked over.
‘Was that Alfred who dropped you off?” Lucas asked.
“Yeah.” Arabella nodded.
“I thought I recognized the car.” Lucas grinned. “Come on, let’s head in.”
They made their way to the training field.

“No other trainees today, so you’ll have the place to yourself,” Lucas told her.

Arabella understood. Naomi was probably busy prepping for her party and wouldn’t be coming. Ruby definitely wouldn’t either- she’d stick close to Naomi, and in her current state, she probably couldn’t focus on training anyway.
“Let’s do this,” Arabella said, glad to have no distractions.
“You pick things up fast, and you’ve got a solid grasp on everything. Won’t be long before you don’t need an instructor anymore and can start solo training,” Lucas praised sincerely.
“I really want to finish up and get my license as soon as possible,” Arabella admitted. That would free her up for other projects.
“Why the rush to get licensed?” Lucas asked, feeling an odd pang of disappointment. Once she had it, she’d probably stop coming around.
Arabella smiled. “I’promised my parents I’d take them flying once I got my license.”
Lucas‘ smile turned a little stiff. “That makes sense.”

I started the novel with great interest. In the beginning the storyline was captivating. Then I feel that the more the story advances, the twists were no longer great. Moreover I don't like Arabella s personality, cold, distant......
