All the color drained from Garrett’s face.
“No–Wren, no. I never I wasn’t trying to destroy you, okay?! You’re my WIFE! I didn’t–wait. You… you KNOW? How do you-”
“Yeah. I know.”
I cut him off, voice like ice.
“Scarlett couldn’t wait to tell me. Came to brag about it, actually,”
Last life, right before I died, she’d come to gloat.
“So that’s why you-”
“Wren, I’m sorry. God, I’m SO sorry.” His voice broke. “I was drunk that night, okay? I messed up. It only happened once, I swear–it wasn’t on purpose, I didn’t mean-”
Julian’s voice cut through, cold as steel. “Yeah, you did.”
Garrett whipped around. “Stay OUT of this!”
“Doesn’t matter anymore, Garrett.” I looked at him, tired. “Whether you meant it or not? Doesn’t change a damn thing. Because looking at you now makes me sick. Genuinely sick. Like I wanna throw up.”
“Go file the papers. For real this time.”
I didn’t stick around to hear whatever excuse he’d come up with next. Picked up my bag, pushed past him, and headed straight for the door.
Julian was right behind me.
After that, I didn’t see Garrett again.
I texted him a few times asking when he’d be available to finalize things. No response.
I was about to give up and just handle it through a lawyer when Dr. Patel called.
“Garrett’s in jail. He pushed Scarlett off a building.”
I blinked. “Wait, what?”
She sent me a video,
Security footage from some high–rise, Garrett and Scarlett on a balcony, fighting.
“You PROMISED you wouldn’t tell Wren! Why the hell did you tell her?!”
He slapped her. Hard. Then his hands went around her throat.
Scarlett was begging, choking out apologies, swearing she didn’t say anything.
But Garrett didn’t believe her.

Chapter 7
He shoved her over the railing.
“You framed Wren for pushing you before, right? Well, congratulations. Now it’s real. Except I’m the one who did it.”
It wasn’t high enough to kill her.
But she hit rebar on the way down.
Severed her spine. Paralyzed from the waist down.
Her reputation was already trashed from the cheating scandal–she’d paid out a ton in contract violations. Now she couldn’t even afford her medical bills.
Her parents straight–up abandoned her.
Garrett got charged with attempted murder. Locked up.
When Dr. Patel told me, I was surprised–but not shocked.
After what happened to his family, after all that trauma… yeah, Garrett had been breaking down for years.
I just didn’t want to see it. Kept trying to hold him together.
But now I’d let go.
And this is what happened.
Dr. Patel’s voice came through the phone, almost satisfied:
“People who trashed you online? Once they realized Scarlett and Garrett played them, they started doxxing them both–showing up wherever they were, yelling, making their lives hell.
“Even now, people track down Scarlett’s hospital room. They get past security, stand there calling her every name in the book, saying she got what she deserved. She’s paralyzed, can’t fight back, can’t even call for help half the time. Just has to sit there and take it.”
“Oh, and people keep asking if you’re coming back. What do you think?”
I smiled a little. “Nah. I’m good here.”
I didn’t have family anymore. But at Cambridge? I’d made friends. Built something new.
This was my life now.
Just getting started.
