Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 159

Julian barely touched his breakfast. After making sure Oliver got a ride to school, he headed straight to work. Up front, Miles finished a call from the hospital and turned around. “Boss, that was the hospital. Your mother’s awake. She wants to see you.”

Julian rubbed at his forehead. “Tell her to focus on getting better. Make sure she knows what happened this morning. Extend her stay at the hospital for another two months. She can come home when her attitude towards Noah changes. If not, she can spend the holidays there.”

Miles’s face shifted a little, surprise flickering in his eyes. Was Julian really willing to be that harsh, even with his own mom? “Yes, boss.”

...

Oliver arrived at school, bouncing along with his backpack while chatting to Madeline on the phone. He filled her in on all the drama that went down at the Grayson house that morning.

Madeline listened, surprised. She never would have guessed Julian would actually punish Helene for the sake of the kids. Was Noah really that important to him? Wasn’t Helene supposed to be the girl he loved most? How could he bring himself to do it?

She realized she didn’t understand Julian at all anymore.

“Mommy, what’s wrong? You got really quiet.”

Madeline pulled herself out of her thoughts. “Nothing, sweetheart. I was just thinking. Are you getting used to Noah’s school?”

“Don’t worry, Mommy. You know me. I can fit in anywhere.”

Madeline smiled. Her son really was a bundle of energy. No matter where he went, he made friends in a heartbeat.

But she couldn’t help worrying about Noah. Growing up with Julian had made him quieter and more reserved. He didn’t seem to like talking much, or being around people.

Madeline knew, sooner or later, she’d have to bring both her kids home. Now that Oliver had settled in with Julian, maybe it was time to start thinking about when to bring Noah back too. She couldn’t let him live overseas forever.

“Yep. We offered a great fee, and they agreed right away. The contract’s ready for tomorrow. Pretty fast, huh?”

Madeline nodded. “That’s impressive.”

She honestly hadn’t expected Brenda to get it done so quickly, especially since the Fortner Group was in the race too. The more she thought about it, the more it felt a little too easy.

Brenda caught her look. “It helped that we were already friends. We went to college together, so there’s a connection. But really, the main thing was the fee. No one could say no to that.”

Madeline had definitely gone all out for this deal.

She blinked, thinking. “You went to college together? Doesn’t that mean she and Raine went to the same school? Do you think they know each other?”
