Tansy took a sip of coffee that her assistant handed her and let out a small, resigned laugh.
“Are you sure this won’t look suspicious?”
“To be honest, they’ve already shown a lot of sincerity. If I insist on meeting their boss, people might even think I’m up to something with them,” she joked.
Helene grinned. “Relax. You’re Tansy. Brands line up for your endorsements. They are just a small company. They won’t do anything to you.”
Tansy raised an eyebrow, her smile playful. “Is that so? Too bad your perfume sales can’t even match a small company’s.”
She knew Helene was just using her. If Helene hadn’t reached out so early, there was no way she would have agreed to work with them so quickly. After all, when it came to fragrances, Helene’s company just couldn’t compete.
Helene’s smile faded at Tansy’s jab. Her eyes darkened as she shot a glare at Raine, who was standing off to the side. This useless woman was the reason for all her headaches. Was Raine’s championship win back then even real? Now Helene had become a joke in the industry.
“Alright, that’s all for today. I’ve got things to do, so I’ll be heading out.”
Tansy slipped on her sunglasses with practiced grace and strode away, leaving the room filled with her confidence. The moment the door closed behind her, Helene’s pleasant expression dropped.
“Raine!”
Raine bit her lip, bracing herself. “Helene.”
Helene’s voice was cold. “Did you see that? Because you can’t do your job, anyone can walk in here and mock me.”
Raine lowered her head even further, guilt weighing her down. There was nothing she could say. She hadn’t meant for things to turn out like this. The real problem was that perfumer at Scent Trace, always outshining her, always making her look bad. It felt like she was doing it on purpose.
If Raine ever found out who that perfumer was, she definitely wouldn’t let her off easy.
“Madeline, you were right. I think Tansy’s already made a deal with Fortner Group. I went to sign the contract today, and now they’re insisting you have to be there in person. They actually brought this up before, but I didn’t think much of it and turned them down. Now they’re going back on their word. Can you believe it?”
Brenda was clearly furious.
But Madeline stayed calm. She stood up, poured Brenda a glass of water, and handed it to her. “Then we’ll meet her,” she said quietly. “Helene wants to know who owns Scent Trace anyway. I don’t mind. She’ll have to find out sooner or later.”
“I just don’t think they actually want to sign with us.”
“It’s fine. Set up a meeting,” Madeline replied, completely unfazed. “But we need to start looking for a new brand ambassador as soon as possible.”
Brenda’s eyes brightened. “Actually, I have someone in mind. His fanbase and popularity are on par with Tansy’s, maybe even better. I think he’d be a perfect fit.”
Madeline looked over. “You had a better candidate all this time and you’re only telling me now? Who is he?”
