Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 178

Oliver went completely still, eyes wide as he stared at Julian. He couldn’t believe what he’d just heard.

Investigate him? Seriously?

Why would Julian suddenly want to check up on him? And how did he even know his name?

A cold sweat prickled down Oliver’s back.

“Yeah. Dig up everything on him, every little detail, and report back to me. And find out what Madeline was doing tonight, who she met.” Julian ended the call without another word.

Oliver looked at Julian’s furious face and hesitated before asking, “Dad, why are you checking up on this guy?”

Julian’s jaw clenched tight. “Because he’s your mom’s lover.”

Oliver’s mouth dropped open. “Dad, are you… sure?”

“She said it herself,” Julian snapped.

Oliver tried not to laugh.

He almost wanted to blurt out the truth, that he was Oliver, the so-called “lover.” He wondered what kind of face Julian would make then.

The car pulled up to the Grayson mansion. Julian scooped Madeline into his arms and stormed inside, Oliver scurrying behind.

The Grayson staff took one look at Julian’s stormy face and scattered. No one wanted to get in his way tonight.

Julian carried Madeline upstairs and dropped her onto the bed, then yanked off his tie and tossed it aside.

Oliver rushed in, standing between Julian and his mom like he was ready to take on the world. “Dad, that’s too rough.”

Julian frowned, frustration simmering in his chest. He pulled out a cigarette and lit it, taking a slow drag as he tried to calm down.

A soft thud broke the silence.

He looked up to see Madeline had rolled onto the floor again, all wrapped up in the duvet like a little caterpillar.

Julian let out a long breath, put out his cigarette, and resigned himself to picking her up one more time.

When she started to roll away again, Julian pressed her in place and muttered, “If you fall off again tonight, I swear I’ll deal with you right here.”

He was already in a terrible mood and she just kept making things harder.

Maybe she heard him, maybe she didn’t, but Madeline only shifted a little, turned her head, and kept right on sleeping.
