Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 181

Madeline kept quiet. The second he decided she was to blame, anything she tried to say would just sound like she was making excuses.

What was even left for her to say?

She looked down, a bitter smile tugging at her lips.

Her silence only seemed to annoy Julian even more. “So you’ve got nothing to say for yourself?”

He didn’t wait for her answer. “Fine, I’ll say it. Her leg was hurt. She could barely walk, and your people dumped her in the middle of nowhere. She could have died from blood loss. If she hadn’t found somewhere with a signal, she’d be dead out there right now. Madeline, you were trying to kill her.”

When Julian got there, Helene was collapsed on the ground. She’d been terrified all night and her wound was infected. She was burning up with fever. The doctors said that if he’d been any later, she probably wouldn’t have survived.

Whoever did this clearly never meant for Helene to leave that place alive.

This was basically murder. How could someone be so cruel?

And Helene said she was kidnapped right after arguing with Madeline. Who else could it be?

Footsteps echoed loudly in the hallway.

A sharp slap landed across Madeline’s left cheek. She barely had time to react before the sting hit her.

“You nasty woman!” Helene’s mother, Courtney, screamed at her, completely losing control. “You killed Helene’s baby back then, and now you’re trying to kill her too! I should’ve killed you before.”

Madeline wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth and slowly lifted her head. Her eyes were icy cold as she stared at the elegantly dressed woman in front of her.

Courtney lunged at her for another slap, but this time Madeline raised her hand and slapped her right back.

“You—” Courtney gasped, clearly not expecting Julian to defend Madeline so fiercely. “Fine, there’s more than enough evidence she hurt Helene. If you cover for her, we’ll bring this to Christian and let him decide.”

“Don’t bother threatening me with him. If I want to protect her, there’s nothing he can do about it,” Julian replied, his voice cold as ice.

“Julian! She almost killed Helene! Why is she still standing here? She should be paying with her life!”

Courtney wouldn’t stop, and Julian’s anger was barely contained. He gritted out, “Are you really that dense? Do I need to get someone to check your head?”

Bill pulled his wife back, his gaze dark and heavy on Julian. “We’ll be waiting for how you handle this.”

Julian’s meaning was clear. Madeline was his concern, and nobody else had any right to touch her or tell him what to do.
