Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 185

“So it’s just two million, right? You can’t come up with that?” Julian’s smile was light, almost teasing.

Madeline gave him a small smile. “Sure, I can. As long as Ms. Fortner doesn’t blame me afterwards.”

Helene’s face lost all color. Sweat gathered on her forehead and slid down her cheeks.

“I don’t want to,” she blurted, her voice sharp and desperate.

She knew Madeline would take this chance for revenge. With Julian backing her up, there was no way she would let Helene off easy. She wasn’t ready to die.

Julian raised an eyebrow, giving Helene a look. “Didn’t you suggest it first? Why are you backing out now?”

“I… I don’t blame Ms. Monroe anymore. Let’s just call it even,” Helene mumbled, her voice shaky. She knew better than to gamble with her own life. She wasn’t that reckless.

Julian’s gaze was cool. “It’s easy to hit someone else, but when it’s your turn, suddenly you’re scared?”

Helene kept her head down, her whole body tense. Sweat dripped from her jaw as she bit her lip, too scared to look up.

Watching Julian so openly favor Madeline made Bill and Courtney seethe with anger. Still, there was nothing they could do. They had no choice but to swallow their pride and wait for another day to get even.

That incident was settled, but the matter of Helene being dumped in the suburbs was still hanging over them. That wasn’t something they could just let slide.

Courtney let out a cold snort. “Alright, fine. That’s settled. But what about when Helene was abandoned outside the city? How are we going to solve that?”

“I did it. I left her there. If you have a problem, take it up with me,” Casey said, his voice cool and tinged with a twisted thrill, almost like he was looking forward to their reaction.

Julian stayed quiet, lifting his brows with no sign of wanting to step in.

Leaving Helene in the suburbs had nothing to do with Madeline. If the Fortner family wanted to settle things, they could deal with the real culprit. Julian didn’t care to interfere.

Courtney’s glare was sharp. “This has everything to do with Madeline, that bit—”

Only then did Casey put his gun away.

Julian noticed the silent exchange between them, and his gaze grew even colder.

“Helene is still hurt. She shouldn’t stay here any longer. This… we’ll talk about it later,” Bill said, voice steady as he glanced at everyone before leading Courtney and Helene away.

Courtney and Helene were still angry, but they had no power here. All they could do was swallow their frustration and leave.

Once they were gone, the tension in the room finally eased. Madeline let out a sigh and turned to Julian, her voice cool. “Can I leave now?”

Julian’s brow creased. He didn’t really have a reason to keep her. Madeline didn’t look at him again. She walked over to Casey and spoke quietly. “Let’s go.”

Casey clicked his tongue, tilting his head as he noticed the redness on her cheek. His eyebrows knitted together. “Who hit you?”
