Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 220

“Who sent you?”

The man hesitated just long enough for Madeline to press her gun a little harder into his side. He winced, voice trembling. “It was... it was a woman. She paid me to follow you and take pictures of you, and anyone you were with. Then send them to her.”

Madeline raised an eyebrow. “Anything else?”

She already knew. It had to be Raine or Helene. No one else cared enough to pull this kind of stunt.

The man shook his head quickly. “No, that’s all. Really, that’s it.”

“Show me the payment record,” Madeline said, her voice calm and steady.

The man fumbled for his phone, his hands shaking as he unlocked it and pulled up his payment app. He held it out to her like an offering. “Here... here you go.”

Madeline barely glanced at the screen. Anonymous account. No way to trace it. Whoever set this up was careful.

She looked back at him. “The photos on this camera are mine now. Got a problem with that?”

He shook his head so fast he nearly lost his balance. “No, no, take whatever you want.”

Madeline pulled out the memory card, then tossed the camera back to him. He caught it, clutching it to his chest like it was his baby. Then his eyes flicked to the gun in her hand, curiosity winning out over fear. “Hey, um... where’d you get that gun? Who just carries one around these days?”

Madeline glanced at the “gun” and smirked. “Oh, this? Ten bucks at a street stall. Looks pretty real, right?”

She tossed the plastic toy into his arms. “You can keep it.”

The man stared at her, stunned. The realization hit him. He’d been scared out of his mind by a toy.

Madeline couldn’t help but laugh. She’d just grabbed it from the backseat when she got out of the car, trying to mimic Casey’s usual tough attitude. Apparently, she’d pulled it off.

She narrowed her eyes at him. “Tell her if she sends anyone else after me, I won’t be so nice next time.” With that, she turned and started walking away.

Noah’s eyes sparkled with awe. He looked at Madeline like she was some kind of superhero.

Oliver looked more relaxed, like this was just another Tuesday. He knew his mom could handle anything.

Still, he grinned and said, “Mommy, you’re so cool.”

Noah nodded eagerly. “Mommy is amazing.”

Madeline felt her cheeks heat up at their praise.

Back at home, she made dinner for the boys. Having both of them with her made her whole day brighter.

After dinner, Noah went straight to do his homework. Oliver didn’t want to be outdone, put away his games and joined him.

Apparently, Julian was out of town on a business trip. Madeline thought maybe Oliver could spend the night with her. But at exactly ten o’clock, the doorbell rang.
