Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 304

Julian’s face flickered with shock as he took in the chaos. He rushed over, closing the distance in a few quick strides, and wrapped his arms around Madeline, pulling her back. “Madeline, stop. Breathe.”

Freed from Madeline’s grip, Helene slid down the wall and crumpled onto the floor. She gasped for breath, the air thick with the sharp scent of blood. Her neck was smeared with it, bright and jarring against her skin. She doubled over, coughing hard, her whole body shaking. Madeline had really meant to kill her.

Lucy stood rooted to the spot, her hand clamped over her mouth, eyes wide in disbelief.

Madeline, still in Julian’s hold, was seething. Her eyes locked on Helene, burning with a fury that said she’d tear her apart if given the chance.

Helene took a while to recover, clutching the wall for support, tears streaming down her face. She covered her mouth, her sobs growing louder, her voice rising in protest. “Madeline, are you insane? I didn’t even know you had a kid! This has nothing to do with me. You don’t have a shred of proof, so why are you blaming me?”

Her voice cracked as she broke down, crying even harder. “You’re crazy, I swear. Julian, she’s blaming me for no reason…”

Julian’s face was cold and unreadable. He could only focus on the woman trembling in his arms.

Madeline heard Helene’s words and let out a cold, bitter laugh. Nothing to do with her? Madeline couldn’t think of anyone else who’d do this.

Right then, the doors to the emergency room flew open. A nurse hurried out, looking flustered. Madeline shoved Julian aside and rushed up to her. “How is he?”

The nurse spoke quickly, “He’s in critical condition and needs a blood transfusion. The blood bank is running low on type A. Is anyone here type A?”

Madeline blurted out, “I am… no, wait.” She remembered, close relatives couldn’t donate.

Julian stepped forward immediately. “Take mine.”

Madeline shook her head, cutting him off. “No.”

Julian’s brow furrowed. “Why not?”

Helene’s heart skipped a beat when she heard about another DNA test. They’d already done two. Now they were doing it again? Her hands curled into tight fists as anxiety crept in.

Time crawled by. Every minute felt endless for Madeline, every second heavier than the last. She couldn’t take her eyes off the emergency room doors.

Finally, after what felt like forever, the doors opened. A sliver of hope sparked in her as the doctor stepped out, pulling off his mask. He shook his head, his face grave.

Seeing the look on his face, Madeline and Julian both felt their hearts drop.

Madeline’s hands clenched into fists as she rushed forward. “Doctor, how is my son?”

The doctor paused, searching for the right words. “I’m sorry. We did everything we could. His injuries are very serious. He’s still in a coma, and things don’t look good. You should prepare yourselves…”

Madeline stood frozen, the words knocking all the air out of her. For a long moment, no one said a word. The silence in the air was absolute.
