Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 389

Helene was seething. It felt like everyone in the room had suddenly switched sides, all rushing to defend Madeline. Why? What made Madeline so special? Helene could barely keep her anger in check. If she let herself slip for even a moment, she knew she would lose it completely.

“Grandpa Christian…” she called out, her voice trembling with emotion.

Christian glanced at her, taking in her tearful, wounded look. He thought about his grandson, who still hadn’t arrived, and felt a pang of sympathy for Helene. She seemed so hurt, so alone. His expression softened.

When he turned to Madeline, his patience snapped. He scowled, his voice sharp and unforgiving. “Someone, get her out of here. Who does she think she is, making a scene at an event like this?”

“Stop!”

A calm, cold voice echoed from the entrance.

The ballroom fell silent. Every head turned to the doors.

A man strode in, his figure outlined by the bright lights behind him. He walked with quiet confidence, his tailored suit fitting him perfectly. There was something about him, an air of importance that made people step aside without a word. His face was striking, all sharp lines and dark eyes that seemed to see right through you.

The crowd seemed to hold its breath.

It was Julian.

He had arrived.

Julian’s brow was furrowed, his gaze sweeping across the stage and landing on Madeline. For a split second, Madeline’s heart fluttered. She met his eyes, feeling a rush of nerves, but she quickly collected herself. She caught Helene staring at Julian in awe and allowed herself a small, knowing smile.

Helene, the real drama is about to start.

Helene couldn’t take her eyes off Julian as he made his way toward them. Her heart pounded so hard she was sure everyone could hear it. Tears welled up, blurring her vision. Relief and excitement washed over her. He’s here. He’s really here. She knew Julian wouldn’t abandon her, not when it mattered most.

As Julian walked forward, the crowd parted, giving him an unobstructed path. People whispered as he passed, their voices full of awe and curiosity.

“Mr. Grayson is here. So the rumors weren’t true after all. People said he wouldn’t show up for the engagement, but here he is.”

But Julian’s eyes were hard, cold, completely unreadable. Helene froze under his gaze. Her confidence faltered. “Julian, what’s wrong?”

He didn’t look at her, only spoke in a low, flat voice. “What’s going on here?”

Helene blinked, her smile fading. “Julian, what do you mean?”

“I mean exactly what I said.”

“I’m not the one causing trouble, Madeline is. She’s trying to ruin our engagement party.”

Julian looked at her, his voice even. “You know better than anyone who booked this hall first.”

“I…” Helene stammered, her words catching in her throat. Panic swept over her face.

Courtney, noticing the tense silence and the murmurs starting up again, hurried to step in. “Julian, you’re here now, so let’s just move on and get the engagement started. Everyone’s watching.”
