Julian lowered his eyes, his gaze settling on Helene. There was no warmth there, only a cold understanding.

“Yeah, it’s fake. So what are you so nervous about?”

“I...” Helene’s whole body shook.

Suddenly, her ears rang with a deafening roar, like something had just exploded inside her head. She jerked her head up and stared at Madeline.

A blank paternity report.

It hit her all at once.

Madeline had done this on purpose.

She had been played, and Madeline was behind it all.

Right then, Madeline pulled out a stack of papers from who-knows-where, gripping them tightly. “This is the one you tried to destroy. The one you didn’t want Julian to see.”

Helene’s eyes went wide when she caught sight of the papers. Instinct took over and she lunged for them, desperate to grab the real report out of Madeline’s hand.

But Madeline was ready. Helene missed by a mile, grabbing at nothing but air. She glared at Madeline, her face twisted with anger. “You set me up! Madeline, you set me up!”

She was frantic, completely at Madeline’s mercy, spinning out of control.

Courtney realized how bad things had gotten and rushed over, trying to hold Helene back. “Helene, stop. Just stop.”

It was ruthless. It was smart. And Helene knew she’d been outplayed.

She let out a dry, bitter laugh. “A paternity test? Please. It’s fake. Your results are fake. Those kids aren’t Julian’s.”

Madeline smiled softly, walking over to Julian. Her voice was calm, almost gentle. “You’re right, Helene. If you hadn’t reacted the way you did, this report might not have been so convincing.”

Julian had already seen so many different test results, so it would’ve been normal for him to doubt this one too. But Helene’s meltdown said it all.

Madeline handed the report over, pressing it against Julian’s chest.

Her voice was cold and final. “Go ahead. See for yourself. They’re your sons.”
