Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 41

Helene’s breath caught in her throat when she heard his low, icy voice.

“Julian? What are you talking about?” she asked, her voice tight with worry.

“Wasn’t it you who drugged Madeline back then? You made sure she ended up in some other guy’s room, then slipped into mine and got pregnant. So really, Helene, she wasn’t wrong about you.”

Julian’s words hit hard, colder than a slap, and Helene felt like she’d fallen into freezing water. He was saying it out loud, admitting he saw her as nothing more than the other woman. How could he say that?

Her heart twisted painfully inside her chest.

“Helene, I warned you before. I told you to stop using dirty tricks to hurt people, but you never listened.” Julian’s dark eyes stayed locked on her, unblinking and sharp.

Helene started shaking, fear crawling up her spine. “Julian, let me explain… I… I’m really sorry. I swear, I get it now. Back then, I just loved you too much, and I got jealous that Madeline took you away from me. That’s the only reason I did those things.

“Julian, if it wasn’t for her, the one with you would be me. She’s hurt me too, you know.” Her voice broke as she clutched at her chest, crying so hard she could barely speak. “My baby died because of her. Every time I see her, I think of my child, and I just get so angry. But Julian, I promise, I swear I’ll never do anything like that again. Please, can’t you believe me?”

She stared at him, tears streaming down her face, desperate for a scrap of forgiveness.

Watching her sob, Julian just felt more and more annoyed. He waved a hand, brushing her off. “I don’t want this to happen again.”

Helene’s face brightened for a second. She took a couple steps closer. “It won’t, I swear.”

“Leave me.”

He didn’t respond. He didn’t even look at her.

Helene lowered her eyes, defeated. “You should get some rest. I’ll leave now.”

She glanced at Julian one more time, her eyes red and swollen, then turned and finally walked out, every step heavy with resentment. As soon as she left, her face turned cold and dark. All of this was Madeline’s fault. If it weren’t for her, Julian would never treat her like this.

Out in the hallway, Helene spotted two doctors in another room, drawing a small vial of blood from Noah. Her heart skipped a beat. Julian was already having a paternity test done. She shot a frosty look at Noah. She couldn’t let Julian find out the boy was his, or everything from the past would come crashing down.

When the doctors came out, Helene walked over, trying to sound casual. “What’s going on here?”

One of the doctors glanced at her. Julian had told them to keep quiet, so he just said, “Noah’s been feeling a little under the weather. Mr. Grayson asked us to run some tests.”
