Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 44

“As for Helene, she only cares about what benefits her. Raine’s let her down too many times, so of course she’s looking for someone new. And since I’m doing better than Raine, it’s obvious she wants to steal me away.”

Brenda clapped her hands, grinning. “You really have them figured out, huh?”

Madeline just shrugged. Their little schemes were all too easy to see through.

“Doesn’t matter, though. They’re not going to get anywhere. Even the higher-ups haven’t met you, so how could those two possibly find anything out?” Brenda said.

Madeline’s lips curled into a small smile. She wasn’t about to let them get their hands on anything. Not yet. They’d already taken too much from her, and she planned to take it all back, one piece at a time.

After tidying up, Brenda headed off to work, and Madeline got ready to visit the Monroe family. Brenda left first. When Madeline finally stepped out of her apartment, she spotted a tall, familiar figure waiting near the entrance.

He was dressed in a sharp black suit, his face cold and a little weary. Leaning against his car, he held a cigarette between his fingers. He took a drag, smoke curling around him, softening his striking features.

A few girls passing by couldn’t help glancing back. But the chill in his demeanor kept everyone away.

Madeline frowned, and suddenly Brenda’s favorite words popped into her head. “Bad luck.”

Julian caught her eye and looked over, his gaze lazy and indifferent.

Madeline turned and started to walk off without a word.

But before she could get far, Miles and two bodyguards stepped up, blocking her path. “Ms. Monroe, please wait,” Miles said. The words sounded polite, but the attitude was anything but. Just like Julian’s people, all business and zero warmth.

Madeline glanced at the security guard by the entrance. “Excuse me, sir, there’s a thug here. Could you call the police for me, please? Thanks.”

Julian’s brow tightened in frustration. Suddenly Madeline’s chin hurt as his hand closed around it, his eyes dark with anger. “Madeline, I just want to talk.”

She clenched her jaw. Why was he always grabbing her chin? Did he not realize how much that hurt? He probably had no idea. Madeline reached up and, with a quick movement, squeezed his chin hard.

Julian’s eyes narrowed, dangerous. What did she just do?

Even Miles, standing off to the side, looked shocked.

Madeline kept her grip on Julian’s chin, moving it side to side, up and down. “Julian, does this feel good? Do you like it when I do it to you?”
