Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 48

He slid into the car Casey had arranged, just as Noah picked up the call. “Hello? Oliver?”

Hearing his brother’s voice, Oliver felt a little rush of excitement. “It’s me. I want to see you. Is that okay?”

Noah paused for a second. “You’re in the Capital right now?”

“Yeah. Your dad was mean to my mom. He can’t just get away with it. I have a plan, and I want you to help me. Will you?”

Noah figured Oliver must have been behind the video from last night. He was a total computer genius, after all.

“Alright. School’s almost out. Where are you? I can come find you and we’ll talk.”

“No, it’s okay. I have a driver. Just send me your location and I’ll come to you.”

“Sure thing.” Noah told him the address. “Be careful.”

“I know!” Oliver replied cheerfully. He hung up and gave the address to the driver, then climbed into his car seat and pulled out his laptop, fingers flying across the keyboard. He wasn’t here to make things harder for his mom. He wanted to be ready for anything.

At five in the afternoon, Madeline arrived at the Grayson house. She stood at the gate, hesitating. She wanted so badly to see the child, to finally get the answer to the questions that kept circling in her mind. But thinking about what that answer might be made her anxious. What if it was true? What if it wasn’t? Either way, what was she supposed to do?

Upstairs, Julian watched her pacing through the tall windows, his eyes narrowing. What was she doing out there?

He signaled with his hand. Miles, in the middle of giving a report, paused and stepped closer. “Sir?”

“Have someone bring the woman at the gate inside.”

Madeline managed a small smile. “Thank you.”

She changed her shoes and followed the housekeeper into the living room.

“Ms. Monroe, please have a seat. Mr. Grayson is still in the study with Miles, talking about work. He’ll be down soon.”

“Alright.” Madeline set her medical kit on the table. “Mind if I look around a bit?”

The housekeeper hesitated, then nodded. “Of course. Go ahead.”

Madeline wandered around the first floor. Julian really hadn’t changed at all. There wasn’t a single family photo anywhere. She looked for a picture of the child, but found nothing.

Upstairs, Julian leaned against the railing, watching her for a while. His eyes narrowed just a bit. After a long moment, he finally spoke. “What are you looking for?”
