Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 503

Claire glanced up, eyes flicking to the hallway security camera. She knew the three elders were watching, studying her and Madeline’s every move from behind the glass.

Madeline felt it too. They both understood why they’d been left alone. The elders wanted to catch something in their conversation, some slip or clue.

Ever since the two of them appeared together, the Ballard family elders had been trying to figure out which of them was real. Claire could sense which way their suspicions were leaning. Madeline understood it even better.

So Claire wasn’t about to make a mistake. She kept her voice calm. “Should’t you be nervous? I’m the real Madeline. How can a fake like you even ask me that?”

Madeline didn’t flinch. Her eyes were cold and clear as she stared at Claire. “We both know who’s pretending here.”

A sly smile appeared on Claire’s lips. “You really won’t stop, will you? Fine. Let’s see what happens. I tried to warn you, but you wouldn’t listen.”

She turned to go into her room, but Madeline’s voice stopped her in her tracks. “No matter how perfect the surgery, there are always signs. A professional will see through it right away.”

Her words rang out, sharp and precise. Claire heard every syllable, and so did the three elders sitting in the surveillance room.

Madeline’s comment was a direct message to them.

Claire’s shoulders tensed. She looked back at Madeline, nodding just once. “Go ahead.”

Madeline stared at the face that looked exactly like hers. The thought of someone else wearing her features made her skin crawl.

She could only dream of living in a mansion like this.

Unlike Kate and Raine, who looked like they’d never seen anything so grand, Grandma Monroe stayed calm. She sat in her wheelchair, a gentle smile on her face, until she saw the two Madelines come down the stairs.

Her eyes widened, shock flickering across her features. “What on earth…?”

Raine and Kate’s reactions were even more dramatic. Raine jumped to her feet. “Madeline? Wait, are there two of you? Oh my god. What is going on? Am I seeing double?”

Grandma Monroe’s gaze bounced back and forth between the two women. Finally she couldn’t hold back. “What is happening here? Who are you people? Why did you bring us, and why are there two Madelines?”
