Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 53

“Of course not.”

“Then why are you sitting all the way over there?” Julian’s voice had a definite edge.

Madeline just smiled. “Why would I sit closer?”

Julian frowned, glancing at the huge table between them. “Doesn’t it feel weird, sitting so far apart?”

She took the plate the maid handed her. “Not at all. It’s always been like this, hasn’t it? I managed before. Five years later, I can still manage.”

Julian stared at her, his expression growing darker. He knew exactly what she meant and he could hear the hint of sarcasm in her voice.

He didn’t bother replying, just picked up his fork and started dinner.

Madeline didn’t look his way again. She just focused on her food.

In a quiet corner, a maid quickly snapped a photo and sent it to Helene.

Helene stared at her phone, eyes wide. Julian and Madeline were actually eating together, at the same table.

A wave of panic hit her, stronger than anything she’d felt before.

“Madeline! I knew you wouldn’t let go.” Helene’s grip tightened on her phone, jaw clenched so hard it hurt.

That bitch had really come back, ready to steal Julian away from her.

No way! She wasn’t going to let that happen.

She saved the picture and forwarded it straight to Mrs. Grayson.

Not long after, her phone rang.

Helene’s lips curled in a carefully rehearsed sad smile as she answered. “Mrs. Grayson.”

She made her voice tremble, just enough to sound like she was holding back tears, as if something terrible had happened.

A cold voice came through the phone. “Wasn’t Madeline supposed to be dead?”

Miles swallowed, looking like he might collapse under the pressure. “This time, Noah did it on purpose. He slipped away from our people.”

Julian’s eyes narrowed, voice even colder. “So you’re telling me none of you can keep up with a kid?”

Miles stiffened, almost desperate enough to scream. If only Julian knew, Noah was a genius. If he wanted to disappear, there was nothing they could do.

At the news, Madeline’s heart started pounding. “Have you checked outside? What about the surveillance cameras?”

“We’ve got people searching already. But the cameras are down. There’s nothing on them.”

It was too much of a coincidence. All the cameras out at the same time. Something was definitely off.

Julian was already on his feet, heading for the door. “Get everyone. Find him.”

Meanwhile, Noah knew bodyguards were tailing him. He couldn’t let them spot Oliver, so he had to give them the slip.
