Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 58

They couldn’t bring themselves to ignore Noah’s order.

“Do we really pull them out?” one maid asked, glancing at the oldest among them.

“We do. We’re just following what Noah said. If anyone gets mad, it’s not on us.” The senior maid spoke quietly, then nodded.

So, the maids started working, pulling up flowers one by one.

Helene knew Julian was still upset, but she hated the idea that this mess might drive a real wedge between them. She got up early and went straight to the Grayson house, hoping to talk to him. The second she stepped into the front yard, she saw what was happening and her heart dropped.

“Stop! All of you, stop right now! What do you think you’re doing?” Her voice rang out across the lawn.

She stared at her beloved flowerbed, now just a few sad petals and broken stems. The maids froze, caught with roses still clutched in their hands.

“Ms. Fortner, we…”

“Who told you to do this? Who said you could touch my flowers?” Helene was shaking, her whole body trembling with anger. “Are you all out of your minds? Do you want to lose your jobs?”

The sharpness in her voice made the maids flinch. One of them stepped forward, speaking for the group. “We’re sorry, Ms. Fortner. Noah told us to pull them up. We’re just doing what he said.”

Helene clenched her teeth so hard it hurt. “Noah!” she yelled, her voice coming out in a hiss.

She marched into the house, eyes searching until she spotted ‘Noah’ sprawled on the sofa with a laptop in front of him. Helene stormed over, ready to smack the computer away, but then she noticed the maids were watching from the hallway. She forced herself to calm down, swallowing her anger for now.

Staring at him, she asked, her voice low and icy, “Why did you have my flowers pulled out?”

Helene ground her teeth, sat down next to him, and her face shifted in an instant. She grabbed Oliver’s arm and twisted it, just enough to hurt.

“Julian, hasn’t anyone told you the truth? You’re nothing but a bastard. You’re not even your father’s real son. The only reason you’re living under this roof is because I let you, because your father lets you. And you act like you own the place?”

Oliver winced, pain shooting through his arm where she was digging her nails in.

He looked down and saw her fingers pressing hard into his skin. Was this how she always treated his brother?

He tried to pull away, but Helene yanked him closer, wrapping him in an almost gentle-seeming hug. She leaned in, voice sweet but words full of poison.

“Don’t even think about telling your father. You know how much he trusts me. He’ll always take my side over yours. If you say a word, you’ll regret it next time.”
