Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 628

Claire paused, then replied, “Okay. I get it. It’s already late, so the earliest I can make it is tomorrow morning.”

“Alright.”

Maxwell ended the call.

An uneasy feeling crept through her. The Ballard family calling her back like this, without explaining anything, couldn’t possibly be good news.

Maybe Julian had seen the video. Maybe he’d even sent it to the Ballards.

But Julian knew exactly what kind of trouble Madeline was in. He had to realize that sending them that video would push her and Madeline to the edge, risking everything. If he cared about Madeline even a little, he wouldn’t dare.

So if this wasn’t about the video… what was it?

Claire racked her brain, but nothing else came to mind that would make Maxwell call her back so urgently.

“Miss, is something wrong?” Carter’s voice cut in.

“The Ballard family wants me to go back to the estate.” Claire’s eyes narrowed. “Keep looking for Madeline. Do not stop until you find her. And Carter, if you don’t hear from me by this time tomorrow night, something’s happened to me. Don’t hesitate. Kill Madeline. If they want to take me down, she’s going with me.”

Carter hesitated. “Miss, are you sure it’s that serious?”

Claire’s gaze darkened. “I’m not sure. But we have to be ready for the worst.”

Meanwhile, in the grand, solemn hall of the Ballard estate, a graceful woman sat perfectly poised at the head of the room, her expression unreadable.

In front of her, the three Elders—Maxwell at their head—stood with barely suppressed excitement.

“Matriarch, I’ve contacted both of them. One still hasn’t answered, but I’ll try again later. If nothing goes wrong, you’ll see them tomorrow morning.”

Shelly nodded. She’d seen enough about the real and fake Madeline online, so she wasn’t surprised.

Shelly had said everything she needed to. Without looking at him, she waved him off, stood, and walked upstairs.

Ray followed, only to find the door shut firmly in his face.

“Are you okay, Madeline?” Luke asked softly. Claire’s people hadn’t found them and had moved off to search somewhere else. As their footsteps faded, he finally dared to speak.

Madeline nodded. “I’m fine. But what about you? You’re injured. Does it hurt a lot?”

“I’m fine. It’s nothing.”

Madeline scoffed lightly. “I might be blind, but my nose still works. You really think you can fool me?”
