Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 636

The two boys glanced up at him, then quickly looked away, their eyes glued to the floor.

Brady just stood there, lost for words.

Josh leaned against the wall, watching them. He reached over and gently patted their shoulders. “Hey, eat your dinner first. Who knows, maybe they’ll be back tonight.”

Oliver's eyes were rimmed red. “Really?”

Josh hesitated, feeling a little guilty for even trying to give him false hope. “Well, let’s hope so.”

Oliver’s face crumpled. “So they're not coming back tonight… Daddy still hasn’t found Mommy.” Tears spilled over, and he gave a pathetic little sniffle.

Josh let out a silent sigh and grabbed some tissues, carefully wiping Oliver's nose, then his tears. “Don’t cry, Oliver. Your mom’s tough, really tough. She’ll be okay, you’ll see. Look at your brother—he’s holding it together.”

Noah just sat there, completely silent, staring at the phone like he was waiting for a miracle.

Then Noah glanced at Oliver and patted his back. “Oliver, don’t cry. Mommy’s going to be fine. Daddy and Uncle Casey will save her, I know it. We just have to believe in them.”

“But why haven’t we heard anything yet? And Daddy isn’t answering his phone.”

“That’s ‘cause they’re still saving Mommy. They’re busy, that’s all.”

Noah reached over to hug Oliver with his little arms, holding him close. “Don’t cry, okay? Mommy always says we’re tough. She said we can’t cry, remember? She’s definitely coming back to us.”

Oliver nodded hard, sniffling. “Okay… yeah.”

Christian came into the living room and took in the scene, his face softening for just a moment as he watched them.

Brady noticed him first and nudged Josh with his elbow.

Josh turned and spotted Christian, and both their faces immediately changed.

“Christian, what brings you here?” Brady asked.

Christian made his way over with the help of his cane. His tone was serious. “Why, am I not allowed to come?”

“Of course you can. No problem at all,” Brady answered, but he couldn’t help but think that Christian never showed up unless something bad was about to happen.

Christian’s eyes drifted over the untouched food on the table, then landed on the boys. “Eat your dinner. When you’re done, you’re coming back with me.”

Noah and Oliver both shook their heads. “No. We’re not going. We want to stay here with Daddy and Mommy.”

“I’ll bring you back when they return,” Christian replied.

“We still don’t want to go.”

Both boys grumbled under their breath and turned around so that Christian got a nice view of the backs of their heads, clearly not interested in going anywhere with him.

The boys’ rejection stung Christian deeply. The tension in the room thickened.

Christian kept staring at them, his expression set. The boys just held onto their chairs tighter and sat silently, refusing to move.

He finally broke the silence. “You two know I’m your great-grandfather, right? Why would I ever do anything to hurt you?” He sounded more hurt than angry now.

Neither boy answered. They just pressed their lips together and clung to their seats even harder.

Outside, Christian walked to the car. George opened the door for him right away. “Sir, you’re done already?”

Christian’s face was dark. “They don’t want me there. What’s the point of staying?”

George kept his mouth shut but thought to himself, So, at least you know.

Out loud, he tried to comfort him. “That can’t be. You’re their great-grandfather. They’ll come around.”

“Don’t bother trying to make me feel better.”

Christian knew, deep down, exactly why things were this way. Madeline had put a wedge between him and his own grandson, and now even the great-grandkids didn’t want anything to do with him.

George hesitated. “Weren’t you here to get rid of the video?”

Christian closed his eyes for a moment. “I don’t even know which computer it’s on. Send someone in to search every laptop in the house. If they find that video, destroy it. As for Julian…”

He exhaled, sounding more tired than before. “Find out where Julian is now. I’ll handle it myself.”

“Yes, sir.”

As dusk settled in, a soft rain began falling outside.

Shelly sat in her room, waiting as her aide knocked and slipped inside. The person she’d sent to follow Claire was back with an update.

“Miss Shelly, Miss Claire didn’t do anything unusual. She just made a bunch of phone calls. I wasn’t close enough to hear much, but I think I heard her say something about ‘keep searching.’”
