“Sir, Dr. Morris is here.”
Brady strolled in behind Miles, not in any hurry. When he saw Julian eating breakfast, he didn’t bother with formalities. He flopped into the chair next to him, grabbed a plate, and started eating like he lived there.
“So, Julian, why’d you call me over?”
He looked at Julian’s face, which pretty much screamed, I barely slept last night.
Brady got the hint. He must be here as the doctor, not just a friend.
He tilted his head at Julian. “This is weird though. I heard the doctor already came to treat you. So why do you still look like you pulled an all-nighter? Was that doctor just all talk?”
Brady rubbed his chin, thinking out loud.
“That’s not it. Daddy wouldn’t let her treat him,” Oliver piped up, spooning more soup into his mouth.
Brady glanced at the little guy. “Your dad refused treatment?”
“Yup. He’s so dramatic.”
Julian just stared at the table, silent.
Brady smirked. “Julian, what gives? Did the treatment not work or something?”
“It worked.”
“It did?” Brady looked even more confused. “If it worked, why’d you stop?”
Julian shot him a look. “You’re awfully nosy this morning.”
Brady shrugged and shoved some bread in his mouth. “That’s what friends are for.”
Julian sighed. “Because the doctor is Madeline.”
Brady almost choked. “Wait, you mean that famous doctor is Madeline? Your ex?”
Julian frowned. “Don’t call her my ex.”
Brady blinked. “Then what should I call her? Ms. Monroe? Dr. Monroe? Former sister-in-law?”
“Whatever you want.”
“I could eat a little more,” Oliver mumbled, trying to buy time.
Julian glanced at the empty bowl and the plate of crumbs, raising an eyebrow.
Oliver tried another excuse. “Um… bathroom.”
Julian didn’t fall for it. He scooped Oliver up and set him right on the piano bench. “Since when did you start making up so many excuses?”
Sitting at the piano, Oliver stared at the keys, totally panicked.
Luckily, Julian didn’t stick around. He just told him to practice and headed back to the dining room.
Julian sank into his chair and finally answered Brady. “She only wants to treat me so she can see Noah.”
“To see him?” Brady glanced at the piano, where Oliver was pretending to play. “So Madeline’s only treating you to get close to your son? She wants to take him back?”
Julian’s eyes turned cold. “I don’t care what she wants. I’m not letting her win. She left him in the first place. Now she wants him back? Not a chance.”
Brady glanced at Julian’s face and actually shivered.
