Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 664

Julian wasn’t surprised. Of course Casey knew.

The strange part was, Casey always seemed to have the inside scoop on everything when it came to Madeline, while Julian barely scratched the surface of her life.

He let out a dry, self-mocking laugh and looked up, meeting Casey’s eyes. “Yeah. I figured.”

Casey smirked, something cold flickering at the edges of his smile. “Didn’t even have to tell you and you already know?”

“If you’re asking like that, you’re never going to give me a straight answer.”

Casey let out a little laugh, the kind that let Julian know just how unimpressed he was. “If you’re so curious, maybe you should do a little digging yourself.”

He took a few steps away, then paused, almost relaxed. “Oh. Almost forgot. There’s a surprise waiting for you.”

With that, he turned and walked off.

Julian’s suspicion only deepened. This was more complicated than he’d thought.

He pulled out his phone and called Josh, who was still back in the city. Josh answered almost instantly.

“Hey, boss. Anything for you. How are things on your end? Madeline okay? I heard the ‘real versus fake Ms. Ballard’ saga finally wrapped up. Aren’t you guys coming back soon?”

“Yeah, soon. But first, I need a favor. Can you dig up Madeline’s medical records from the past few years?”

Josh sounded puzzled. “Wait, why her medical records?”

Julian explained, keeping it short and to the point.

Josh was quiet for a few seconds. “Alright, I can try, but it’ll take some time.”

“How much?”

“Two or three days at least. Maybe four. We’ve looked into her before, and none of this ever turned up. Know what that means?”

“Someone went out of their way to hide it.” Julian knew that much for sure.

The real question was, who did it, and what were they trying to hide?

He had to get to the bottom of Madeline’s surgery. Why she’d needed it. Why she’d gone through so much trouble to keep it a secret.

And then there was Casey’s last remark. A ‘surprise’ probably meant nothing good. More likely, it’d be the kind of shock he wouldn’t want.

The night slipped by in silence.

Julian spent it half-asleep on the sofa. Sleep didn’t come easily, not with everything spinning around in his head. He didn’t finally close his eyes until it was almost dawn.

Morning sunlight eased through the window, painting warm stripes across the room.

Madeline stirred quietly, sitting up and carefully extending her hands. She moved with slow, deliberate motions, almost like she was feeling her way in the dark.

Her delicate fingers traced along the back of the sofa. She leaned forward, trying to figure out the edges. Then she reached out further, patting softly, looking for a place to sit.

But what her hands found wasn’t the cool texture of the sofa’s leather. It felt more like cloth. Suit material. She gave it a little press. It felt soft, giving under her fingers.

Julian opened his eyes to see Madeline leaning over him, a little frown on her face, her hand wandering dangerously close to his private area. She clearly had no idea what she’d just touched. In the darkness, every small thing was a mystery, so she moved with extra caution, completely unaware she had just poked him squarely in the lap.
