Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 97

Julian was still in the hospital room, so she couldn’t see her son yet. All she could do was leave for now. Madeline smoothed her clothes and turned to go, but Helene wouldn’t let her. She grabbed Madeline’s arm, still going on and on.

“Madeline, where are you going? I haven’t even finished.”

Madeline yanked her arm free and gave Helene a look. “What else could you possibly have to say? Are you going to brag again about how much Julian’s done for you and tell me to stop bothering him? It’s always the same lines. Honestly, I’m tired of it.”

“You—”

Helene started to raise her hand, but Madeline caught her wrist in a flash. “Your last injury still isn’t healed, right? Maybe don’t act so tough. We haven’t even dealt with the time you drugged me. If you keep messing with me, you might end up with another scar.”

She let go, and Helene staggered back, her eyes burning with hate. She glared at Madeline’s back as she walked away.

Madeline had barely stepped out of the hospital when her phone rang. It was Brenda.

“Madeline, where are you?”

She had just gotten into her car and switched on the Bluetooth. “Just left the hospital. What’s up?”

“You went to the hospital? Are you okay? Are you sick?”

Madeline started the car, steering calmly out of the parking lot toward her apartment. “I’m not sick, Brenda. I saw the kid.”

There was a shaky excitement in her voice, and Brenda seemed to pick up on it. “Wait, don’t tell me… is he really your son?”

“Yeah… he is.”

“So you’re going to fight Julian for him? Do you have a plan?”

Madeline went quiet, Helene’s words echoing in her mind.

“Julian just keeps him around like a pet. He doesn’t even care. He hates that kid. Do you know why Noah’s in the hospital? Because last night he messed up, and Julian made him stay outside. He left a little kid out in the cold all night, all alone.”

Madeline’s heart twisted tight. If Julian didn’t even like her son, would he give him back if she asked? If he refused, how could she possibly take her son away? What was she supposed to do?

She pressed her lips together, her brow furrowed. “My mind is a mess. I don’t know what to do yet.”

“It’s okay, Madeline. You can’t rush something like this,” Brenda said gently. “I don’t think Julian would actually take out his anger on a child. That would be way too small-minded. Just take things slow. For now, let’s try to get close to the boy and see how he’s really doing.”
