Just as Vance finished the questions Amber had assigned, he saw Sharif Madison walk over and place several books directly onto Amber's backpack.
Before Vance could voice his shock—"Mr. Madison?"—Amber spoke up. "Vance, stay here and keep reviewing your notes. I need to discuss something with Mr. Madison. I'll be back in a bit."
Amber picked up her phone, leaving her bag untouched. Vance panicked. "Can't I come with you?"
He glared at Sharif with pure hostility. Sharif chuckled. "You can tag along, as long as you don't fall asleep."
Vance was confused. Amber practically wanted to roll her eyes at Sharif. His malicious habit of teasing people was just as intact as ever.
"Vance, what Mr. Madison and I are discussing is confidential. It wouldn't be appropriate for you to tag along. I'll be back in two hours tops. That's perfect timing for you to review your English vocabulary. I'll quiz you the second I get back."
Vance wanted to argue, but Amber simply said, "After you, Mr. Madison."
Vance screamed internally. What kind of confidential business required leaving the library to talk? Why was a CEO hanging around a library instead of being in his office taking meetings?
He was furious but didn't dare say a word. Especially when Sharif suddenly glanced back over his shoulder and flashed him a smile. For some reason, Vance felt like he was staring at a total supervillain.
The deeply wicked kind.
He felt an unprecedented, intensely humiliating wave of condescension wash over him.
He wanted to beg Amber to take him along, but she was already walking away. Vance could only sulk, gripping his hair in frustration—he absolutely had to get into Zenith University.
He was going to confess to Amber!
The restaurant Julian booked wasn't far away. Whether intentionally or not, it was located right across the street from the library.
As Amber and Sharif discussed the project, they could see Vance through the window. Naturally, Vance could see them too.
