Seeing the two of them on the verge of another blowup, Sebastian stepped in, his voice calm and low. “Serena’s pregnant. She shouldn’t be around all this noise. Nathan, take it upstairs if you need to argue.”

Nathan set his spoon down and shot Deanna a cold look. “Upstairs. Now.

She followed after him, sulking as she’d just swallowed her pride.

Serena shook her head.

Deanna is seriously too much. If she keeps this up, she’s going to tear this family apart.

They had barely made it upstairs when something went wrong.

“Something’s wrong! Nathan just collapsed!”

Bryce’s heart lurched. “Call an ambulance, now! Where’s the family doctor? Get him here!”

Serena rushed upstairs with the others.

Sure enough, in their bedroom, Nathan lay there pale as a sheet. Thankfully, the doctor arrived quickly and started CPR right away after what felt like forever, nearly ten minutes, his breathing finally steadied.

The whole house descended into chaos.

Serena was shaken, too, when the ambulance arrived.

Sebastian followed the stretcher out, with Deanna right beside him. “Honey, stay home with Dad.”

Bryce refused immediately. “No, I’m going to the hospital. Rena, you’re still early in your pregnancy. You stay.”

In the end, they had no choice, so the housekeeper went with him to the hospital.

Sebastian and Deanna left with the ambulance.

Serena didn’t push it. She stayed behind.

I guess I’ll just go tomorrow during the day.

She didn’t forget to instruct the staff, “Don’t gossip about Mr. Levine’s condition.”

They all nodded and went back to what they were doing.

She had completely lost her appetite by then. Uneasy, she texted Sebastian. “How’s Nathan, honey?”

It took him half an hour to reply. “They’re still trying to stabilize him. I might not make it back tonight. My dad will head home later. He’s not in a good mood, so just bear with him.”

She let out a soft laugh.

Bryce isn’t the type to take this kind of thing out on me.

Serena curled up on the couch and waited. It was already ter at night by the time Bryce got home.

“Bryce, how did it go?” she asked.

There were more streaks of gray at his temples than before. “Rena, he’s stilkin surgery. They said it’s a heart issue.” He let out a tired breath. “It’s been one thing after another lately. Nothing’s been going right at home.”

“Bryce, he’ll be okay. Once Nathan’s better, we can go pray together sometime.” She wanted to pray too. She wanted to ask God to keep the baby safe.

‘Yeah, I’m fine. You should get some rest too. We probably do need to pray.” He sighed.

The housekeeper helped Bryce settle into bed, and only then did Serena finally relax a little. Even so, she didn’t forget to remind hem, “Check on Old Mr. Levine every two hours.”

He’s old, and I’m worried something might happen before he gets help in time.

She lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep.

Finally, around two in the morning, a message from Sebastian came through. “Nathan’s okay. The surgery went well. He just needs ime to recover. Don’t worry.”

‘That’s a relief. Go find an empty room and get some rest.”

Her phone rang almost immediately. His low voice came through the receiver, steady and calming, easing something tight in her

Why are you still awake? Planning to skip work tomorrow?” he asked.

She shook her head. “I’ll just take the morning off. I can’t sleep without you here. And Bryce doesn’t look too good either. Why don’t you call the housekeeper? I already told them to keep an eye on him. At least he’ll feel better if someone is there when he vakes up.”

He chuckled. “I know. Get some sleep. Honey, go to bed. Don’t hang up. I’ll listen until you fall asleep, then I’ll hang up.”
